- Simon Templar: [narrating] Dallas, 1963. Memphis, 1968. The crack of the assassin's gun. The panic, the confusion. It's all there, stark and real on the television screen. And for a moment, you feel involved. But only, for a moment.
- [a phone starts ringing]
- Simon Templar: Well, this time I am in involved. How or why, I don't know yet. Maybe I'm just about to find out.
- [picks up the receiver]
- Hendricks: Eight and a half minutes. Thanks, Simon.
- Simon Templar: Well, I can recognize urgency.
- Hendricks: For urgency, read 'panic'. Look, Simon, old friends don't need to be tactful. In the next hour, I've got to disappear.
- Simon Templar: Well, disappearing always was one of your specialities, Jim.
- Hendricks: Oh, I mean like vanish right off the side of the Earth. So not even my own people could find me. Yeah, especially not them. There's a leak in the agency bigger than the Niagara falls.
- Simon Templar: Ok, consider yourself vanished.
- Vidal: Now, tell me something about Senator Reilly. It was a very dangerous contract.
- Simon Templar: [posing as hitman Brown] I didn't kill Senator Reilly and you know damn well I didn't kill him. He died of a heart attack exactly three minutes before I was due to hit him.
- Laura: Why did you follow Vidal, señor Brown?
- Simon Templar: Reconnaissance. I like to find out about the people I'm working for, whether they're amateurs or professionals.
- Laura: And what did you find out?
- Simon Templar: That Vidal is as easy to follow as a protest march and your protection consists of a couple of kids who couldn't guard an icecream stall.
- Laura: Hm. Really, señor Brown? What were you expecting, private armies? Electric fences?
- Simon Templar: I'm going back inside the villa.
- Valerio: Huh? Oh, señor Templer, if antything, eh, should happen to you...
- Simon Templar: Oh, Valerio, I am touched.
- Valerio: ...who would pay me?
