THE RIFLEMAN –I Take This Woman - 1962

This is the 148th episode from the 1958 to 1963 western series, THE RIFLEMAN. Over the course of 168 episodes we follow the life of Lucas McCain and his son, Mark. They have moved to the small western town of North Fork where they hope to start a new life. Chuck Connors headlines the series with Johnny Crawford as his son. Connors is a world class hand with a Winchester rifle which of course ends up getting him in no end of trouble.

North Fork hotel and general store owner, Patricia Blair get a shock when a visitor from the old country shows up. The man, Sean McClory is a real Irish rogue with a mean temper and a liking for the bottle. It seems he wants Blair to stick to a bargain Blair's family had made back in Ireland. Blair's father had promised her to McClory to seal a bargain made for some land. Blair had thought otherwise and had fled to America.

Friend, Chuck Connors can see that Blair is completely frightened of McClory. He offer to help but Blair is just too upset to accept. This however changes as McClory starts to spend all of Blair's savings and belts her around. Connors steps up and a top flight donnybrook erupts. Up and down the street, through various windows and doors the two battle, till McClory is finally sent to la, la land.

Not the best of episodes that is for sure.

A bizarre circumstance never caught any interest
kfo949418 February 2013
Dennis O'Flarrety comes into North Fork to see Lou. O'Flarrety and Lou were next door neighbors in Ireland (small world) and Lou's father gave Lou's hand in marriage to O'Flarrety. It seems that Lou's mother had died and left her father with six children. O'Flarrety helped his father makes sure the kids had food and clothes and that is why he gave his oldest daughter, Lou, to O'Flarrety.

For some reason Lou feels a connection with the old ways of her father and will go ahead with the marriage. But soon we find out there is more to O'Flarrety than meets the eye. Lucas will be the only hope that Lou has from making a serious mistake.

The concept of this episode is rather bizarre. Why they had to make someone, all the way from Ireland, show up in the New Mexico territory is strange even for a novice viewer. It was so far-fetched that the story never gain any interest. This was not one of the better 'Rifleman' episodes. An average watch.

Not up to par

This episode is not up to par with the usually great series. Sean Mclory always plays the same type Irishman on any show he's on and I never have cared too much for him. He's one of those actors that sort of brings a show down instead of adding something extra such as Lee Van Cleef, George Kennedy, John Dehner, Strother Martin, Warren Oates, Bruce Dern, and many others.
