The episode came out a winner.

When I first saw that this episode featured Sammy Davis Jr as a gunfighter, I was somewhat skeptic about the situation. I have nothing against Mr Davis but I have seen where famous stars just do not live up to the standards of a weekly series. But after watching I can say that Mr Davis did an outstanding job of making the character come to life and the episode's story much better.

The story begins with a gunslinger, Tip Corey played by Davis, rides into North Fork making everyone uncomfortable. When Micah confronts Corey about leaving North Fork, Corey tells him that by sundown he will have the Marshal's badge and will rub it in the dirt.

But do not be taken up by the harsh words spoke. Even though Corey has a reputation of being a killer there is a side of Corey that just wants to live without having to prove anything to anyone. But it seems that all Corey has is his reputation and he cannot find a way to be release from the grip of what people believe.

Lucas gets Micah to leave town and he pins on the badge. Corey is ready to leave North Fork but he still has one more task to prove. He has got to live up to his reputation.

I was worried at the start of the show but those emotions fled very quickly into the broadcast. This episode turned out to be an interesting tale that keep the viewer's attention the entire time. Even with some of the later shows being lackluster, this episode brought back all the excitement of the series. Good watch.

This is my favorite episode of the Rifleman. Sammy Davis Jr. Was a well respected and amazing actor/entertainer and had a reputation of being one of the fastest guns in Hollywood.

THE RIFLEMAN – Two Ounces of Tin – 1962

This is the 131st episode from the 1958 to 1963 western series, THE RIFLEMAN. Over the course of 168 episodes we follow the life of Lucas McCain and his son, Mark. They have moved to the small western town of North Fork where they hope to start a new life. Chuck Connors headlines the series with Johnny Crawford as his son. Connors is a world class hand with a Winchester rifle which of course ends up getting him in no end of trouble.

A famous gunman, Sammy Davis Jr, rides into North Fork. Considered to be the fasted gun around, Davis of course puts the townsfolk on edge, North Fork Sheriff, Paul Fix, grabs up his shotgun and goes to pay Davis a visit. Fix asks Davis to clear off and leave town. Davis informs him that is he is still wearing the badge at sunset, Davis will kill him.

Chuck Connors tells Fix to leave town for the day and he will step up and be the Sheriff for a day. Davis however says the same deal applies to Connors. Remove the badge and toss it in the dust, or die.

Davis and Connors' son, Johnny Crawford, meet on the road outside town. Crawford does not know about Davis being a famous gun hand. The two just talk about small town life. Davis admits that he is from North Fork some 20 years before. He is going to the small cemetery outside of town. His father is buried there in a grave marked unknown. Crawford tells Davis that he has planted flowers on the grave so the person buried would not be alone.

Needless to say, come sunset, Connors and Davis hook up for the showdown. Connors puts two in Davis and knocks him down for the count. Connors is sure that Davis was slow on the draw on purpose. Crawford tells Connors about Davis's father. Connors and Crawford make sure Davis is laid to ground next to his father.

Getting late in the series, the producers seem to be dusting off old scripts, making slight changes and turning them out as new material. I'd swear this one is on its third go around. OK, but nothing special.
