While it was fairly progressive for a 1960 TV show to be pro--Cherokee, they simply could not accurately present the scale. In 1838 the Trail of Tears, the Cherokee death march, forced tens of thousands of people to travel on foot for over 1000 miles. Disease, starvation, exhaustion, attacks from white supremacists, and unsheltered exposure to some of the worst winter weather on record killed thousands. PS: The Cherokee lived in permanent homes not in teepees like the nomadic plains indians.
