Mariette Hartley was cast because she and James Garner had made several Polaroid commercials together in the year leading up to this episode's air date. The commercials were so popular, many people thought they were, in fact, actually married. In an interview she said a friend as a joke had a t-shirt printed up that read, "I am not James Garner's wife".
Unlike the other 2 Cadillacs Angel's had - a lime green and darker- red-finned model - the one he drives in this episode's a rather heavily rust-damaged and filthy 'cherry red,' (which Angel's named 'Lucille', like his previous Cadillac. It was painted lime green, and got destroyed at the end of the 5th series' episode; 'The Man Who Saw the Alligators', when Jim threw a Molotov cocktail, which landed in it, and the car caught fire, and blew up).
While Jim is walking on the beach with Althea Morgan she says that the court is going to sell off everything he owns. He answers that he's, "been there for six years and maybe it's time to move on." This was the sixth season of the show and his "moving on" remark is a foreshadowing to the viewer that the series was nearing its end.
This episode is the only one in the series to feature the interior of the public toilets behind Rockford's trailer, in the scene where C.C. "Come with the Cash" Calloway tells Rockford to meet him inside for a conference about the hidden gold, much to Rockford's distaste.
The physical nature of the Jim Rockford character was by this point taking a toll on James Garner, resulting in the majority of this limited season's episodes a lot more "talky" and less kinetic. This episode was one of the exceptions.
