Blood money

This one is about some blood being stolen from Memorial Hospital, where Jill works, and Jill being knocked out by the thieves when she catches them in the act. The thieves then sell the blood to a doctor who then resells it on the black market.

This is an interesting and unique story, because who knew there was a demand for stolen blood on the black market. It's also a race against time for the rookies, since some of the stolen blood was intended for a newborn baby who needs a transfusion, which must take place within a couple hours or the baby could die.

It's been a rough month for Jill. First she gets taken hostage by Maxine and her clowns at the prison farm in Ladies Day and now she gets her head crushed by a glass jar and ends up with a skull fracture. Of course, as with any main cast member who is injured and ends up in the hospital, you know how it's going to turn out because there wouldn't be a show without them, so there's no suspense with Jill's situation.

Harold Gould is really good as usual as Asmos, the corrupt doctor who is buying the stolen blood and then reselling it at a profit. This is one of his many appearances as villains on various crime dramas throughout the '70s.

Cleavon Little does a lot of overacting which will make your blood boil. He plays Cully Ames, one of the doctor's goons. The acting from the rest of the cast is fine.

Ryker is low-key throughout and doesn't do any ridiculous and unnecessary yelling.

There are a couple of nice action scenes at the end, including a couple of chases but no shootouts.

This is a solid episode with some fresh plot elements, like the blood trafficking scheme and Jill taking a blow to the head for the first time. The only weakness is Cleavon Little, but beyond that, this one is excellent.
