- Upset because she got dumped again, and certain she will never find a good man, Crystal turns to Roseanne and Jackie for support and advice. Booker turns down a date with Jackie because his "Mother" is in town, and turns up at the Lobo Lounge with another woman. Jackie decides not to turn the other cheek. Praying for a snow day, Darlene procrastinates doing a book report she has to turn in the next day.—Lynne Boris Johnston
- Before we enter the Connor kitchen, the opening scenes show a lot of snow in Lanford, IL. Becky & Darlene are listening to the radio hoping their school(s) will be closed. No such luck but of course Dan & Roseanne are happy that the kids won't be staying home. The announcer on the radio says that the schools in Aurora and Lanford will be open. (Another reference as to where the fictional Lanford may be located.)
While at work at the factory, Roseanne and Jackie keep asking Crystal what is wrong. Jackie says that Crystal has been acting weird all day. Finally Crystal fesses up and tells the girls that she got dumped (again!) last night. Roseanne and Jackie suggest they go to the Lobo Lounge that night and try to cheer Crystal up so she doesn't go home to play her Patsy Cline records and to cry. Not to mention that whenever she gets dumped, she also calls Roseanne up crying.
In the meantime, Jackie asks Booker if they are still on for tonight as she got the tickets for the auto show. Booker says the plans were not definite and that his mom is in town so Jackie gives Booker the tickets and says she hopes they enjoy themselves. It is a bit obvious to the audience that he is lying but Jackie seems to believe him and Roseanne comments on how nice she is to him.
After work and before Roseanne goes out, the girls are still hoping for a school closing as Darlene needs to do a book report on Betsy Ross. How in the world can she get 5 whole pages on that subject? As Darlene says: she was born, she sewed a flag, and she died.
At the Lobo Lounge: a lot of the patrons are watching a football game so it is pretty crowded. Roseanne and Jackie order beers and Crystal wants a Pink Squirrel. (Note: I had to look up "Pink Squirrel" as I wasn't sure it even has alcohol. It does but is a creamy drink and supposedly you don't taste the alcohol and it kind of creeps up on you.)
Crystal laments about her failed marriages and other relationships with men. Roseanne tells her she is a doormat. After the sisters talk to Crystal, she realizes she really is a doormat. Roseanne pretends to be a man and tries to "pick up" Jackie. They are trying to teach Crystal how to say "NO!" and to be more aggressive when it comes to men. Jackie tells Crystal that there ARE a FEW decent men out there. Roseanne says to Jackie: "Like Booker?". The cheater is there at The Lobo with another woman.
Jackie borrows Roseanne's wedding ring, goes up to them and pretends to be real distraught and asks Booker where he has been. She has been looking for him for 3 days and is he ever coming home? She says the kids have been asking about him. Booker's "mother"/date believes Jackie, is disgusted with Booker, and takes off.
Jackie denies being hurt by Booker and tells him she is just upset because he lied to her.
In the meantime, Crystal is getting drunk and reminiscing about how great high school was. Especially the hay rides and the pep rallies. Yikes! The Bears score a touchdown, the people in the bar go nuts, and Booker picks up Jackie. He asks her to go back home with him but she is not having any of that. Not after he lied to her. Jackie goes back to the girls' table and Crystal seems to be a lot better and the 3 of them start checking out men's butts.
Back at the Connor household, Darlene has finally finished her book report, just as Roseanne gets home and tells her there is so much snow that there is no way there is going to be any school tomorrow.
INTERESTING FACT: This episode aired Tuesday - 12/20/88. The Bears did play a MNF game on 12/19/88. They played at home against the Vikings. The final score, though, was Vikings - 28 & Bears - 27. Apparently someone was on the job and checked out the upcoming football schedule before they taped this episode. That or it was one big coincidence.
