Tod and Linc are in Poland Spring, Maine working as a social director at a summer family resort and counselor at a boys' summer camp respectively. Tod has who he considers two problematic but associated guests. The first is fifteen year old Binky Klein, who has professed her love to him and kisses him at every opportunity. The second is Binky's psychiatrist father, Dr. Sumner Klein, who wants Tod to deal with this situation on his own as he feels that Binky needs to face the reality of the situation as he just telling her that she can't pursue Tod will not accomplish anything meaningful for Binky's life experience. Meanwhile, Linc meets Morgan Harper, a horse stable owner who has recently returned to Poland Spring where she grew up. She hadn't returned in large part to get away from the memory of her ex-husband, Eric, an artist who used her as his muse/subject. His obsessiveness toward her led to him losing an eye in an attempt to kill her. She has evidence that Eric is back in town and has come to kill her. Although she initially fears for her life, she ultimately decides to try and locate Eric to confront those past demons. Linc provides his assistance to Morgan, which in turn could place his own life in danger, especially as he learns of the specific details of Morgan and Eric's painter/muse relationship.
