Not bad, decent

Nice short production and interesting from start to finish. A very good story, decent performances and easily enjoyed even after many years later. Sherlock and this story gets straight to the point and the audience can get a good dose of a mystery.

The Case of the Night Train Riddle
Prismark1027 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Holmes and Watson are taking to a train for a holiday break.

When a governess has lost a boy in her charge, she comes to Holmes for his help. The boy was on his way to boarding school but he did not want to go.

The governess suspects that the boy has run away to avoid school. Holmes is intrigued with the boy's imaginary friend, a clown.

There is a circus nearby and Holmes is convinced that the boy had help to run away.

Of course the boy coming from a wealthy family has darker motives.

There is time for comedy but some of the comedy was misplaced with the sinister themes in the story.

Bozo Would Be Proud!
Hitchcoc30 September 2008
Holmes and Watson are on holiday. Watson doesn't feel it's healthy for Holmes to stay holed up in his apartment all the time and gets him to agree to a trip. This is archetypal detective stuff. They always find a case when they are trying to get away from one. In this episode, a rich little boy has escaped his governess. He is on his way to school to become a gentleman. He has been entrusted to his uncle who has a connection with a circus clown. The governess pleads with Holmes to take the case, much to Watson's frustration. This episode suffers from incredible dullness and a really silly conclusion. Of course, Watson insists that they continue their trip and they move on. Not, however, until he lectures the young man on trying to avoid school by running away.

A somewhat pedestrian Mr. Homes redo
oscar-3527 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
*Spoiler/plot- 1955, Eps #16 Night Train Riddle- Watson and Holmes go on a train holiday away from city crime. The train they are riding suddenly stops and a young boy has gone missing. The boy's governess is frantic and asks Homes for his help on the incident.

*Special Stars-Leads: Ronald Howard, H. Marion Crawford, Archie Duncan, Director- Sheldon Reynolds

*Theme- A clear sharp mind can solve any problem.

*Based on- Sir Conan Doyle mysteries

*Trivia/location/goofs- Produced in England filmed for TV. People will recognize several 50's English character actors supporting Mr. Holmes and Dr. Watson in these videos. The chief Scotland Yard inspector Lestrade is well acted by Archie "Robin Hood's Litl' John" Duncan and Alexander "Friar Tuck" Gauge are featured in many episodes. Some episodes are not from the Doyle books, just makeshift 'spin-offs' using the characters. Detective TV shows were very popular in this TV Neilsen ratings 50's era, then the pre-western era 60's hit.

*Emotion- A somewhat pedestrian Mr. Homes redo for televised viewer audience. Nice to see the other previous acting roles for the many English character actors. Many are easily recognizable from their appearance from another English import favorite TV show, Richard Green's 'Adventures of Robin Hood'. It's great to see their acting on camera with Mr. Holmes and Dr. Watson.
