Lisa Is Beautiful!
g-bodyl1 January 2015
This is the fourth episode of the fourth season of the Simpsons and it's a very good episode highlighting on themes of sacrifice and self-image. Of course, humor is mighty prevalent. But it's worth paying attention to the themes and in reality, the episode can actually psychologically help people in need. That being said, this is a funny episode. My favorite scene has Lisa singing parts of "Proud Mary," a hit song from Creedence Clearwater Revival.

In this episode, "Lisa the Beauty Queen," Homer enters Lisa in a children's beauty contest after her image is broken as a cartoonist made Lisa look ugly. Lisa comes in second, but after the winner is injured, Lisa wins by default. Lisa is shocked to be promoting cigarettes while on tour, so instead she campaigns against smoking.

Overall, this is a solid, well-done episode. It has very important themes that one can appreciate. There is even a surprise guest appearance by the late Bob Hope so that was a wonder. A very good episode. I rate this episode 9/10.

Homer enters Lisa in a beauty pageant.

This is a very strong episode full of great historical and pop culture references.

Lisa has a great little arc in this story that goes from the psychological scars of her image consciousness to a satirical rise and fall story. Homer is the catalyst for much of the great humour and heartfelt moments.

The quality of the jokes are excellent, with dialogue, visuals, and numerous references I find very funny. Numerous characters have great moments such as Bart, Krusty, Skinner, Kent Brockman, Mayor Quimby, Moe, and Barney.

The line of beauty

Warning: Spoilers
Lisa the Beauty Queen is I think peak Simpsons, part of the golden era, which in my most humble opinion, is the first 10 seasons of The Simpsons, although some episodes beyond that are worth watching. This episode is spot-on in parodying or critiquing or making the subject of satire beauty contests, corporate sponsorship (the one with the camel), and what is beauty and is it really in the eye of the beholder.

Lisa is aghast that perhaps she doesn't fit into the beauty category, so Homer does his fatherly duty and encourages her to enter a beauty contest, and the ending is quite hilarious and satirical.

A Lot of Reality

I recently wrote a review on "Don't Look Up." This film shows the American people to be shallow and clueless. While an overstatement and a dramatic stretch, I think that when we look at society as a whole, there's a lot to be said for that impression. It is prevalent in our adulation for people and productions that contribute nothing substantial to our world. Don't get me wrong. I know hero worship has been around forever, but for so many people it's all there is in their lives. Here poor little Lisa is portrayed by a caricature artist as being rather ugly. Of course, those guys always exaggerate features, but she is crestfallen. Eventually, through Homer's machinations, she is entered in a beauty contest where she finishes second after doing a Tina Turner version of Proud Mary. There is a real message here.

"Dad, do you know anything else about women?" "Nope, that's it"

Seeing the names of the episodes from Season 4 I can say it is a really good Season. I stop watching regularly The Simpsons on TV so basically I haven't seen the Season 4 episodes in a while but hell I have seen each of those episodes AT LEAST a couple of times so I can say right now that some very memorable episodes that are definitely favourites of mine are from Season 4. Episodes like Kamp Krusty, HOMER THE HERETIC, Treehouse of Horror III, Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie, MR. PLOW, LISA'S FIRST WORD, Brother from the Same Planet, I Love Lisa, Duffless, Last Exist to Springfield and Krusty Gets Cancelled are those favourites of mine, those are certainly highly re-watchable classics. This one, Lisa the Beauty Queen, is a good episode, it has some really memorable moments but I think it is one of the weakest of Season 4.

You say the appearance of a girl is not important for her and you know you're lying. Here the school carnival leaves two things to the Simpsons: a ride on the Duff blimp for Homer and insecurity for Lisa because of her appearance. Homer can be what you want but he is also a caring father, we see him crying because he just sold his Duff blimp ticket to try to help Lisa and Lisa knows what means that his father sold his Duff blimp ticket! Homer sold his ticket to can afford Lisa's entrance to the Little Miss Springfield pageant and yes Lisa will be the queen but not a conventional one, she will try to make things better then she doesn't help the Mayor Quimby and some others. Is just hilarious to see Homer's mistake in the pageant application! (-in the area under "do not write in this space", he wrote "okay"-). A very funny ending to a good episode. (Also check when Lisa sings part of the great Creedence Clearwater Revival song "Proud Mary").
