Marge the Criminal!
g-bodyl10 January 2015
This is the twenty-first episode of the fourth season of the Simpsons. It's a really good episode that asks the question of what would happen if Marge would leave her family for an extended amount of time? Well, prison gave us all an answer. One word: Chaos! But this was a solid episode and further undermines the stupidity of the lawyer Lionel Hutz, and the corruption of Mayor Quimby and Chief Wiggum.

In this episode, "Marge in Chains," Marge is caught shoplifting and is sentenced to 30 days in prison. In her absence, the family goes haywire as the cooking and cleaning becomes atrocious. Meanwhile, Springfield notices her absence at a bake sale when her prized treats are not there due to her being in jail.

Overall, this is a very solid episode. It's pretty nice to see Marge the one being tried by the criminal system instead of Homer. That was interesting to watch. Also, David Crosby has a good cameo. I rate this episode 9/10.

A bad court thingy

Marge is arrested for shoplifting.

This is a strong episode with great humour and references to pop culture and history.

There are several funny concepts such as the mob mentality that the writers always lampoon so well on The Simpsons. I also like the tribute to 'It's A Wonderful Life'.

Numerous gags hit the mark very well, particularly everything that relates to the Osaka virus and all Marge's experiences with prison and some brilliant lines from Lionel Hutz.

For me it's an 8.5/10 but I round upwards.

Malaise!

Warning: Spoilers
Really, sometimes it's the quick scenes that make me laugh big time when watching The Simpsons, and Marge in Chains is no exception, with the malaise scene making laugh big time out loud, and probably for fans too young to remember, you would laugh out loud if you were there at the time.

Anyway, Marge in Chains shows just how much her family and the residents of Springfield miss her very much, and there's kind of a parable about the role of motherhood and all. For me, it's the first 10 seasons of The Simpsons that's the gold standard, although some episodes afterwards are worth watching for sure.

Covid reminder

Quite good episode, at first reminiscent of a coronavirus pandemic, in one part of the episode the lawyer wonders what the world would be like without lawyers, you ask yourself too.

Kind of Dull

I generally have little to criticize. I think when it comes to modern satire, this show took it to new heights. Marge getting arrested for shoplifting and Abu doing nothing to prevent it, just isn't very strong. Of course, the wheels come off the bus immediately.
