The science fiction author's name, Isaac Clarke, is a tribute to real-world science fiction authors Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke, who enjoyed an acerbic but friendly rivalry throughout their careers. His brother is named Robert for Robert A. Heinlein.
