Special Branch looks at student radicalisation. Another strangely topical tale to go with the earlier one about migrants crossing the English Channel.
These days the focus is on Islamic radicalisation at universities along with Environmentalism, Antifa and various other left wing causes.
Right wing radicalisation at university tends to get a free pass. It's embarrassing for the police to keep track of mainstream politicians and various highly paid heads of university departments who encourage far right views in the name of freedom of expression. The same freedom of speech ceases if it's anything slightly left of centre.
Jordan discovers that Peter Harris, the son of Det. Chief Insp. Matt Harris is associating with leftist groups at University. The type that call for direct violent action inspired by radical French students of that era.
Peter espouses non violence but it falls on the deaf ears of the agitators. Peter arouses more distrust when the radicals find out who his father is.
Det. Chief Insp. Matt Harris is also under pressure because of the activities of his son. It causes a deterioration in his relationship with his son and his job might even be at risk.
Hard to think that your position at the police might be at risk if your son turns out to be a bit of a Bennite.
Apparently the police were a bit like that in those days. Political views of your kids is a bad notch on your record. Turning a blind eye to police corruption which was rife in those days in the Metropolitan police, that is ok.
