Mrs. Huffnagle has heart surgery. The girl with the extensive plastic surgery has the results revealed with an interesting outcome. Daniels has an appendectomy and then begins to act crazier than before. She also returns to the scene of the crime. For a beautiful woman, she looks nuttier than a ice cream drumstick.

Shirley's story isn't over yet. And neither is Peter White's, since Peter will appear in a future episode.
Some characters like Bobby Caldwell (Mark Harmon) and Phillip Chandler (Denzel Washington) do not always receive prominent storylines during this particular season of St. Elsewhere. But the following season, Bobby is diagnosed with AIDS, which is a huge plot. And Phillip is given a girlfriend, played by Alfre Woodard, who would be nominated for two Emmys for her work on the show.
Sometimes Eric Laneuville only has one or two brief scenes as Luther Hawkins, the orderly. Though that is usually because he is working behind the camera as an episode director. Laneuville went on to have a very prolific career directing in television, and his acting took a backseat to his directing.
