- Rodney can't remove an Ancient device that makes him invincible but prevents him from eating or drinking. Meanwhile, there are power malfunctions throughout the city and one of the Athosians mentions seeing a shadow.
- After receiving Dr. Beckett's revolutionary gene therapy, which aims to allow those born without the Ancient gene to interact with Ancient technology, McKay manages to activate a device that shields him from any and all physical harm. Despite his temporary invulnerability, McKay is forced to swallow his fear in order to help rid the city of a dark, formless entity which is feeding on the city's most vital energy.—Fia Reynne
- Dr. Rodney McKay enthusiastically volunteered for Dr. Carson Beckett's rare alien control turn-on gene therapy without properly understanding it, only to finds the impenetrable body armor he activates doesn't shut down, which may mean invulnerability comes at the cost of starvation. Athosian Halling's son Jinto plays the usual warrior hide and seek with mate Wex, but goes missing aboard the base, which may not be entirely explored, while it's impossible to tell if the sighting of a wraith (shadow alien predator) is a figment, as Theyla can't sense it. Tracing Jinto using communication devices set Sheppard's search party on the trail of a novel internal transportation system. Its' time for desperate measures when the shadow proves the all too real cause of a lethal general power shutdown.—KGF Vissers
- Dr. Carson Beckett's gen therapy is a success, Rodney McKay has now the ancient gene. He tests an ancient device that makes him invincible. There's one problem, he is not able to take it off and can't drink or eat either. Meanwhile the Athosians try to find a way to live among the people from Earth. Jinto, Halling's son, and Wex start a game. Wex will play a Wraith and Jinto will be major Sheppard hunting him Suddenly Jinto is gone and no one can find him. Extensive rescue parties aren't successful either. Then the power supply suddenly starts having problems. One of the Athosians says she has seen a shadow.—Arnoud Tiele (imdb@tiele.nl)
- Dr. Carson Beckett's gene therapy seems to work giving Dr. Rodney McKay, the first to try it, the gene required to operates the Ancients' devices. McKay soon finds that an amulet he picked up acts as a shielding device that no one can penetrate. The problem is that he can't seem to turn it off meaning he is also unable to eat or drink. Dr. Weir faces another problem when one of the Athosian children sees a shadow roaming the ship, a phenomena often used by the Wraiths but Teyla cannot sense their presence. The shadow creature is obviously attracted by energy so they can manage its movements temporarily but must find a way to rid themselves of it permanently. When one of the Athosian gets lost, the team discovers an internal transportation system and a possible means of ridding itself of the shadow creature.—garykmcd
- McKay is receiving medical treatment from Dr. Beckett to get the gene to operate the Ancient technology so he can activate a device he found in one of the Ancient labs. Meanwhile the Earthlings and the Athosians get acquainted and Weir gets the base up and running. In the control room Sheppard and McKay are testing the device that turns out to be personal force field. Weir orders McKay to remove it but he can't get the device off through the force field.
Later McKay relizes that he can't eat or drink either and he'll eventually starve or dehydrate. Beckett believes its possible the gene therapy isn't permanent but Weir is convinced he can mentally deactivate it, but won't because of his subconscious misgivings about the Wraith.
Meanwhile the team rig up a self-destruct device on the base in case the Wraith show up, but are wary of informing the Athosians since one of them may be working for the Wraith. Later that night Sheppard tells the Athosian children a ghost story before bed. After lights out two of the Athosian children sneak off to explore the base and one of them, Jinto, disappears.
After that, sensors start showing strange life signs and the power fluctuates, and a shadowy entity shows itself and begins feeding on the Naquadah generator. Sheppard and McKay manage to track down Jinto to a laboratory via a teleportation system for the city. The team attempt to divert the entity by fluctuating the energy in different sections, but it catches on and injures Lt. Ford.
McKay discovers that Jinto has accidentally released an entity from the laboratory it was an early experiment by the Ancients with ascension. They can lure it back into the containment vessel but someone has to be at the unit to activate it. McKay still has the force field but becomes so scared at the thought of being able to approach the creature that his mind subconsciously deactivates that device and nobody else can use it. Sheppard volunteers but the creature is canny enough to avoid the trap.
Teyla figures that the creature wants to escape and they can use a MALP and a Naquadah generator to lure it through the Gate. The plan initially works but the entity drains the battery on the MALP before it can enter the Gate and then starts "feeding" on the Stargate itself. McKay overcomes his fear and reactivates the force field, then unhooks the Naquadah generator and throws it through the Gate the creature goes through just as McKay's shield device is drained.
