"The sublimation is a chemical process whereby solids turn into gas without passing through the liquid state"

"In psychoanalysis ,the sublimation is a defense method which results from the unacceptable aggressive and sexual drives ,to direct the energy to one more acceptable social ,moral or aesthetic nature of use

Believe it or not,the two meanings can apply to the "sublime adventure"

A butcher (Guy Marchand) is seeing things :his plump wife becomes a loaf of meat where the numbers of the good pieces are written:did he cut her up with his machete or did she sublimate "herself" ?or did he? "she was boiling " says he to the cop who thinks he's out of his mind and sends him to a mental hospital , straight-jacketed.

It's a shaggy-dog story;since the beginning ,Claude Chabrol, our host is mistaken (?) for a lunatic and winds up in the insane asylum where strange chemical and psychological events happen.
