Please do not read the cast because there's a big spoiler in it .
As is he about to get rid of his gagged wife ,by throwing her from the top of the quarry ,Jean Rochefort asks "it is good isn't it?" and for a few seconds you can believe he is playing in a movie.
As his wife had taken out a 5 million life insurance ,Mr Delabarre becomes a suspect ,at least to a stubborn cop's eyes ...who is actually an insurance rep.
A nod to Clouzot's cop in "les Diaboliques" this representative is here ,there and everywhere and comes at the most awkward moment, when the murderer makes love with his mistress for instance....In fact ,the unexpected twist recalls Agatha Christie's"murder on the links".
Well acted by Jean Rochefort ,who had worked with Chabrol in one of his weakest works "Les Magiciens",it's an entertaining short, though nothing exceptional.
