Mary-Anne is the new girl in town and is desperate to make new friends. She comes across Leo and Jamie, two obnoxious and jerky brothers who make fun of her and tease her, but she still has two friends: her beloved cat Boo, and a tall man with a sinister glare but incredibly caring personality who no one else can see. Of course, this only gives Leo and Jamie more reasons to bug her; they think imaginary friends are only for little kids and they call her a baby (hell, I have an imaginary friend and I'm eighteen, the two boys in this show were so jerky to that little girl!) when one of the brothers decides to hold Boo hostage, Mary-Anne begs her imaginary friend to rescue the cat, and mayhem ensues.
This was one of my favorite episodes of Tales from the Cryptkeeper as a kid; many children and adults as well have imaginary friends as coping mechanisms or outlets for their imaginations so many people can relate to this episode. It's also got a good moral for children: bullying is wrong and if you get to know someone rather than bully them, you might just make a new friend. It was a little cheesy, but it's a TV show aimed at seven-year-olds so it makes sense. Tales from the Cryptkeeper is a great show for kids, there's very little violence, no swearing, nobody dies but the bad kids always learn a lesson at the end of each episode. It's great to have a show out there for kids who like horror and creepy stuff but one that's safe for them and teaches moral values. I love the background music to this episode and the voice actors were excellent, the story is original and the narrator is the surprisingly lovable Cryptkeeper, who tells lame puns and jokes that you always end up laughing at all the same.
