35-year-old Edward Hall (Richard Conte, who is clearly well on his way to 50) would rather stay awake than face Maya (Suzanne Lloyd), the sexy but dangerous girl from his episodic dreams, one more time. With the help of drugs, he's successfully stayed awake for over 80 hours, but how long can he escape the inevitable?
Perchance to Dream deals with how the subconscious mind can manipulate our irrational fears, incorporate things seen in reality into our dreams, and generally screw us up big time—an interesting concept, but one that I didn't feel was told in a particularly interesting manner. The nightmarish carnival imagery is well executed (the delicious Maya being the top attraction, of course), but the story drags and the ending is a bit of an anti-climax (it was all a dream.... yawn!).
Anyway, if I was repeatedly dreaming of Maya the Cat Girl sexily gyrating her ample curves before accompanying me into a fun-house for a spot of canoodling, I think I'd be overdosing on the Nytol. Yes, I know that she's up to no good, but it's not like she's equipped with knives on her fingers—and boy, what a figure!
Night night!
