Season 2 rules

Season 2 would 100% have topped season 1 if it was not for Mojovision which really sucked.

The awesomeness about season 2 is a the background story's on characters you may not have known much about outside of the x-men.

Colossus & Cable - really loved it.

Rogues background on Ms Marvel - how slick is that's?

Animation game is steeped up and the story goes from episodes 1 throughout on Magnito & Charles

Great story telling - enjoy it for what it is.

Trouble in subtropical paradise PT2

The conclusion to the story that ran through this season is great. There is action intrigue and some deserved healing for one character. X-men the animated series has a great second season finale and is ready for more season and episodes.

Overall this season was an improvement on the previous one. Whilst both seasons had their filler episode. This season had the luck it could get into the action straight away.

The only sad thing is that after the firstt 3 episodes of this season, the runtime got a bit shorter.

Season 2 review. Amazing.

Warning: Spoilers
X-men thrive here.

There's no question what the writers and directors of the show want to do: make meaningful stories. All the episodes point to it. Except for Mojo, there is a clear line and direction: Developing the characters they have.

A little thing I can appreciate about this is that going for season 1 to season 2, there aren't any more new X-men. The show runners know who they have, they know there is so much more to be done. And so they do it. They give Beast, Storm, Rouge, Wolverine, Cable, and Gambit all very interesting and well thought out episodes and moments. Cyclops is a staple and exemplary leader.

From watching other X-men shows growing up, it was a refreshing thing for season 1 not to hide away and separate Professor X from the X-Men. Looking at season 2, they did it. And I'll be honest, this time isn't exactly perfect. But pairing Magneto with him helps. But the whole savage land thing wasn't particularly interesting. We never learn why or how Magneto made the thing, even though a big plot point every time was how all the creatures there hate his guts. I'm sure they will develop that a bit, but it's a big question and leaves the whole season ender feeling a bit dry.

Mr. Sinister is menacing and scary, but we don't really learn his power set. It's very clear that he has special power but with beams and phasing, it's not nearly clear enough what kind of inspiration it has. Is a telepath? Is he a ghost kind of thing? He's got all these minions that are on his side, but with an under explored characteristic of power ability and authority, I don't see why they follow him over magneto.

Overall, though, the season does a great job and is very consistent. I love the characters, I'm impressed with the animation, and I think there is a still a lot more room to work with. But with a shallow understanding of this seasons "big bad" I'm a little disappointed.

Season Two Review
southdavid12 June 2020
Season two of "X-Men. The Animated Series" is a bit better than the first season in almost every sense.

With some politicians now siding with the mutants, The Friends of Humanity, a human first terrorist movement come to the fore and make The X-Men one of their targets. Charles Xavier and Magneto are lured to "The Savage Land" where Magneto was one the ruler and battle to survive in this lost plateau. Meanwhile, The time lines are complicated still when both Bishop and Cable come back from the future on opposing missions to alter the past.

So the show looks better. There's more effort and consistency in the drawings that there was in the previous season. The Sentinels, that were a constant issue with regards scale in the previous run, aren't as prevalent in the story this time, so that's one issue gone but all round there's more effort into distinguishing background characters from each other, and not reusing footage than there was previously. Storyline wise, it's more consistent too, each episode actually seems to run in order and the story of Xavier and Magneto trying to survive the Savage Lands runs across the whole season, in the background of many of the episodes. (Though nobody seems that bothered about where Charles is for most of the run). There are a couple of odd detours along the way, most notably the "Mojovision" episode when the X-Men are kidnapped and made stars of an Alien's TV network and "X-Ternally Yours" when Gambit returns home for some nonsense about Assassins guilds and offerings to a mystical being.

It's better, but it's a long way still from worthy of the score it sits at.

Goofy as hell

I've been finding the Savage Lands storyline to be the weakest part of the season and this two-parter is exclusively about it. Why are there dinosaurs and an off-brand Conan the Barbarian in my X-Men cartoon? I know the old X-Men comics can be pulpy but this is so far removed from what I like about the series it doesn't even feel like X-Men anymore. Siniter's motivation also desperately needs some fleshing out, is his whole deal just wanting Scott and Jean to bang? Why does he even bother intervening then, just look at them, surely they'll "mix their DNA" if you just leave them alone. Wolverine is also pretty much the only character who actually does anything in this episode while others are all held captive. Very boring.
