- GoofsAfter Ward complains about Fred being a "stuffed shirt", June comments, "Ward, Wally's best friend is Eddie Haskells and yours is Fred Rutherford. What's wrong with this family?" Wally's friend, of course, is Eddie Haskell (no "s" at the end).
- Quotes
Theodore 'Beaver' Cleaver: [re-joining Gilbert on the floor after talking on the telephone] Did the Martians land from outer space yet?
Gilbert Bates: Yeah, they landed a couple minutes ago.
Theodore 'Beaver' Cleaver: Boy, they're funny-lookin' little runts, aren't they?
Gilbert Bates: That's not them, ya goof! That's the commercial. They're the funny little guys that wreck your stomach if you don't take that stuff that fizzes.

LUMPY'S SHINDIG... A MESS OF A MESS...
A Dick Conway gem, extremely well written (if not calculated) when it comes to staying overnight at a friend's house and all the dumb things that could happen. Dick was also lead writer for PETTICOAT JUNCTION, and did a few episodes like this on that show, only with the sisters.
It's all about Wally asking if he can stay at Lumpy's house for his first BIG PARTY --and Beave asking if Gilbert could stay overnight -- and a lack of communication when it comes to Ward and June in the first place. OR second place.
It's kind of confusing, but a really funny salute to Murphys Law. Best of it is the wild party at Lumpy's, resulting in a major cleanup, naturally, and Lump begging Wally to stay overnight so his dad won't hit him! Definite shades of LAUREL AND HARDY and enter obnoxious Fred Rutherford (memorably played by Richard Deacon).
This is goofy stuff, comparable to a series of blackout sketches strung together. Hilarious scene has Ward in the den trying to figure out what checks June wrote --and Beave coming in at exactly the wrong time, which gets them both in a mess.
Don't miss Gilbert coming down to breakfast in his pajamas --and Ward and June asking where'd he come from? Has this ever happened to you?
And the big question... Just how many cocktail parties did Ward and June go to the night before? Hmmm?
A gotsta' see. Never a dull moment. SEASON 5 EPISODE 24 remastered.
