Now, they will be able to take their fandom for Zack Morris and the gang to a whole new level with a new Malibu Beach Sands Beach Bar and the chance to hang out in Preppy’s iconic ’90s-drenched bedroom starting February 8.

I’ve got some cool news for all you movie lovers out there. MGM has teamed up with YouTube to release 100 ad-supported films that you can watch for free! These films are now currently available to watch, and if you have the YouTube Premium service, you won’t have to sit through the ads.
Some of the films that you can watch include the Rocky film series, the Pink Panther movies, the original Terminator, Legally Blonde, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story, Saved, and a bunch of other films. This is just their way of trying to fill some kind of void that will be left behind when FilmStruck comes to an end.
Rohit Dhawan, director of product management at YouTube, told Ad Age, "We saw this opportunity based on user demand, beyond just offering paid movies. It also presents a nice opportunity for advertisers."

Fox has released the first trailer for their upcoming Ridley Scott-produced vampire series The Passage. The show is based on the book trilogy written by Justine Cronin, and it has a talented creative team behind bringing it to life. The series is also being produced by Matt Reeves and it's being written by Liz Heldens (Friday Night Lights). The series definitely looks like something worth checking out! I like what I'm seeing in this trailer and it's good to see Saved By The Bell's Mark-Paul Gosselaar in another big series! Here's the synopsis:
The Passage focuses on Project Noah, a secret medical facility where scientists are experimenting with a dangerous virus that could lead to the cure for all disease, but also carries the potential to wipe out the human race. When a young girl, Amy Bellafonte is chosen to be a test subject, Federal Agent Brad Wolgast is...

On a balmy Sunday afternoon in April, Mandy Moore lounges on a white leather couch in a corner of a bare four-star West Hollywood, California, hotel room, counting down the final minutes of a rare day of work during a picturesque spring weekend. Glam in a chic designer black dress and barely there makeup from a prior event, gone in that moment is any sign of the bubbly teenage blonde pop star singing about puppy love in “Candy.” In her place is a mature, fulfilled 33-year-old who has since demanded the world’s attention on This Is Us.

Did NBC just use The Voice Top 10 results night to aggressively cross-promote upcoming premieres of Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love and Hollywood Game Night?
Yeah, sure, but who cares? We got not one but two performances from living legend Dolly Parton, a mildly amusing bit of filler in which Jane Lynch got Blake Shelton and Miley Cyrus to sing into a fun-house microphone and an appearance by Pentatonix that makes me wonder if the Peacock Net might be considering a relaunch/reboot/revival of The Sing-Off. Thought to be one of a new generation of horror filmmakers taking the genre into a welcome Renaissance, Mike Flanagan spent many years cutting his teeth directing television in the ten years between his second and third films. While his 2011 thriller Absentia did find a cult following, it wasn’t until his next film Oculus premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 when Hollywood started to take notice.
That led to a couple other films including making Hush with Blumhouse Productions, who around the same time hired Flanagan to write and direct a prequel to their 2014 horror hit, Ouija.
Ouija: Origin of Evil takes its prequel status quite literally by shifting the story back to 1967 when a single widowed mother Alice Zander (Elizabeth Reaser) and her two daughters are helping to pay the rent by holding rigged séances. When Alice brings home a Ouija board and immediately starts to break the “rules” of “playing,...

Not only did that recipe become Eddie Wilson’s reason for living in the 1983 film Eddie and the Cruisers, but it has also served as the modus operandi of Elton John and Bernie Taupin since initially joining forces back in 1969.
Their opening statement, Empty Sky, sowed the seeds of greatness early on despite not producing a single track worthy of revisiting. John was still flying by the seat of his pants artistically and Taupin had yet to find his comfort zone as a poet capable of synthesizing the static with the mercurial to create something truly profound.
Nonetheless, the potential was evident, and, by the next year, they would have a bona fide smash on their hands in the form of, Your Song, an immortal ballad that wears its emotions on its sleeve while Taupin’s protagonist professes love to someone who is destined to leave the...

In June, Starz announced it was getting into the quality drama game with rapper/actor/charitable energy drink creator Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, giving a series order to "Power," an hourlong scripted show produced by Jackson and created by Courtney Kemp Agboh ("The Good Wife"), who's serving as showrunner and executive producer. Today, the premium network announced that Omari Hardwick has been cast as the lead in the series. He'll play James "Ghost" St. Patrick, the wealthy owner of a New York nightclub whose desire to build the place up into a larger empire is complicated by his other life as a drug kingpin catering to the city's elite, an illicit career he'd love to leave behind for the world of legitimate business -- though extricating himself is far from simple. A new secret drug career show! Hardwick was a regular on TNT cop drama "Dark Blue" as well as TNT...

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news about Porter. He also is known for scoring "Red Widow," "Saved" and the TV movie "Hooters Best Damn Dream Girl Special 2007."

Once a shining beacon of comedy on the American TV network ABC, Happy Endings – a modern sitcom about six friends (Zachary Knighton, Elisha Cuthbert, Damon Wayans, Casey Wilson, Adam Pally and Eliza Coupe), some lovers and some related – had garnered a cult following and a decent sized social media following. Unfortunately it was the latest victim to the March to May cull of shows on American show, cancelled after three years on the air.
Fortunately it’s still being shopped around to various networks in the hope of the show continuing on in some form, albeit in a different home away from ABC. Why all this interest in a single sitcom? Because it’s something a little special, a cut above the vast majority of comedies out there.
So, here are my top five reasons why Happy Endings should get rescued from the chopping block by another network and why...

Exclusive: Netflix and Mrc are beefing up the upper ranks of drama House Of Cards going into Season 2. David Manson has come on board as executive producer to work alongside showrunner Beau Willimon. The David Fincher drama starring Kevin Spacey received a straight two-season pickup by Netflix when the streaming service outbid HBO for the rights to the adaptation of the BBC miniseries. Season 1 premiered this past weekend, with Netflix making all 13 episodes available at the same time. Filming on Season 2 is expected to begin this spring. Manson recently served as executive producer/showrunner on AMC’s Richard Lagravenese/Tony Goldwyn legal thriller pilot. The project didn’t get a series pickup but was left in contention by the cable network. Manson’s credits also include New Amsterdam and Thief. Additionally, he created/exec produced the TNT series Saved.

This week’s Jim’s Notebook gets emptied out with a glance ahead to November, when so many great shows are either premiering or returning with new episodes.
I also take a look at the upcoming new season of Dallas with one of the cast members. And, after getting an early peek at tonight’s episode of Fringe, a non-spoilery plea from yours truly to not miss "The Bullet That Saved The World."

Pretty Little Liars: The annual Halloween episode that aired earlier this week kicked some butt in the ratings but also deepened the mystery of the show, thanks to the expert storytelling of Executive Producer Joseph Dougherty. We definitely had some chilling moments: the lives of both Aria and Spencer were threatened; Mona continued her dastardly ways; someone definitely died and Adam Lambert rocked the Ghost Train.

2012
Written and directed by Ava DuVernay, Middle of Nowhere demonstrates a profound knowledge of how formidable it is to carry on as one outgrows people and parts of life that threaten to stifle a true sense of self. Nowhere follows a woman who consistently gives more to her man than she gives to herself. For Ruby (Emayatzy Corinealdi) having one relationship be the focal point of her existence has taken a toll on how much she is willing to enjoy the company of others and appreciate her own sacred freedom. Trapped by her admirable loyalty, her journey to breaking away from crushing obligation is as much about fighting herself as it’s about repossessing a strength that has been there all along.
Ruby’s selflessness has become a liability. Her absent husband Derek (the excellent Omari Hardwick of TV...

For even the most seasoned festival goer, the Fantasia Film Festival presents a daunting challenge. With over 160 films playing, it is impossible to see everything and compromise is not an option but a necessity. For the cinematic adventurer, however, Fantasia is a gold-mine: bringing to the forefront some of the strangest, smallest and craziest of genre cinema to the big screen. The success rate is not always high, but the joy of discovering an unexpected gem outweighs any disappointment that may be encountered on your adventures through the trenches of obscurity.
That being said, my most anticipated films of the festival combine the more highly anticipated works with some stranger more unpredictable entries. Be sure to check out the Fantasia website for a full list of films and leave a comment with your own list of anticipated features!

Exclusive: David Manson has come on board AMC’s Lagravenese & Goldwyn pilot (aka Philly Lawyer) as executive producer/showrunner. The untitled project is a legal thriller centered on a District Attorney who uncovers new evidence that prompts the reinvestigation of a sensational murder case. It explores personal morality and how people struggle with the shades of grey found in the absence of a simple, ordered moral universe. Feature scribe Lagravenese wrote the script and will executive produce the pilot with Goldwyn, who will direct, and Mason. Andrew Sugarman will serve as a co-executive producer. Manson most recently served as executive producer/co-showrunner of the FX drama pilot Outlaw Country. His credits also include New Amsterdam and Thief. Additionally, Manson created/exec produced the TNT series Saved. The untitled Lagravenese/Goldwyn project is one of two drama pilots AMC picked up last month, along with Low Winter Sun.

So much can be — and has been — said about the resilience of NBC’s Chuck. In fact, television circles will, I humbly predict, refer to it exactly how Ep Josh Schwartz described it to EW: “Saved by sandwiches.”
The show always found itself facing cancellation (Chuck Vs. The Bubble, if you will), and yet, somehow, be it fans or footlongs, found a way to come back. And when it came time to close out the series, it seems only fitting that Chuck, the character, displayed the same resilience as the universe he existed in.

More than 20 years after introducing himself to audiences via the doofus mechanic Lowell on the sitcom "Wings," Thomas Haden Church has become one of Hollywood's most reliable character actors. Transitioning from TV to film in the late 1990s, he enjoyed a career resurgence in 2003 in Alexander Payne's "Sideways" playing a caddish best friend to Paul Giamatti's sad-sack writer, and has since found his way into movies both big (Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3") and small (Sam Levinson's directorial debut "Another Happy Day").
Next up for Church is Cameron Crowe's "We Bought A Zoo," in which he plays Duncan, older brother to Matt Damon's character Benjamin, a bereaved father who purchases an ailing zoo. Church talked to us in New York about finding common ground between himself and his on-screen sibling, creating stories that are both believable and wish-fulfilling, and, well, buying a zoo.

[1] Note: Parts of this blog post are reprinted from last year. Every September, a small rustic mountain ski town in Colorado becomes host to one of the most elite film festivals in North America -- The Telluride Film Festival. My friend Alex Billington of FirstShowing [2] has a theory that most of the good film festivals are hard to get to. Alex's theory is that to see the good films first, you really need to work for it. To attend Sundance, you need to fly into Salt Lake City and drive an hour into the Park City. To attend the Cannes Film Festival, you have to fly into Paris and take a six hour train ride into Cannes. Unless you take the expensive plane that Hollywood studio types charter directly into the small small airport in Montrose and take a one hour shuttle into Telluride, then you're flying into Denver,...

Following up Tambay’s wonderful review of Ava DuVernay‘s, I Will Follow, I would like to share the fascinating and evocative experience I had with one the film’s main stars:
Last week I had a chance to speak with Omari Hardwick who portrays the character of Troy in I Will Follow. You may remember Mr. Hardwick from last year’s highly debated For Colored Girls adaptation as well as his many film and television roles; including a supporting part in the hit movie Kick Ass and the lead role in TNT‘s former cop series, Dark Blue.
We had a candid discussion on what drew him to this touching story, his thoughts on female directors, cinematic poetry and the politics of industry awards and race in Hollywood. It was a thought-provoking half hour, I learned a lot through Omari’s words on cinema-craft as well as what it...
