A fitting end to a superb comic series
seivadch24 September 2018
Most of the last series of Allo Allo fell well short of the others. The change of actor for Herr Flick being a total disaster. However (with hindsight) it seems almost as if it was only made to lead up to this final chapter. This episode it split in time, the first half tidying up all the comic loose ends as Cafe Rene is liberated.

Then in the second half we see the view from many years later as Gruber, Helga and Eric return to Cafe Rene to meet again with Rene, Edith, Yvette and Mimi.

This has happened repeatedly since 1945. There are countless accounts in books, films and TV shows, of former combatants from WW2 meeting and finding out they were just ordinary people, doing the same job, with the same hopes and fears, caught up in something beyond their control. Even now their children and grandchildren continue to meet old, and new, friends.

Having cried with laughter for 9 series, reality finally reached Cafe Rene, and yes I still cried.

It ends with a classic.

The Allowed Forces arrive in Nouvion, signalling the end of The War.

It's a fitting end to this great series, it's a wonderful final episode, they really threw everything into this one, it's full of laughs, and full of familiar faces from the past.

It's a sentimental watch, of course it's funny, but it is tinged with sadness, the end of a British Institution. You may even just shed a little tear at the end.

I loved the little jump forward on time, I thought they worked really, really well, loved it. It's so strange to see people in hideous 90's jumpers sat in The Cafe.

Of course you get to hear Madame Edith singing The White Cliffs of Dover, I'm sure everyone predicted that moment.

Not sure there'll ever be another show like this one, one of the greats, 10/10.

A fitting finale to a classic

Warning: Spoilers
After 9 years (longer than the war!) I don't think even the most ardent 'Allo Allo' fan could argue that the show had perhaps gone down hill a little by this point.

We do get a fun final episode though, with all the famous catchphrases thrown in for good measure.

I wasn't overly a fan of the 'modern' scenes at the end, I didn't think those worked, but what cannot be denied is the quality of the cast/writing of this beloved show.
