Sherlock Holmes is engaged by the young man, Paul Devon. A year earlier, Devon participated with three companions in archaeological expedition to Egypt. Researchers had discovered a tomb there, which - as was said - casts a curse. It was the mummy of Pharaoh. Already killed were two members of the expedition. First, Prof. Martin, got a surprise attack trying to open the sarcophagus and got lost in the labyrinths of the tomb. Pierced by an arrow, another prospector was found by police the day before the visit to Devon. Walking out of the apartment of Sherlock Holmes, Devn is also killed. All indications are that the perpetrator of the crime is the fourth of archaeologists, Prof. Taunton, but Holmes is not at all inclined to believe the obvious.
