- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone] Henderson and a commando unit attacked us fifteen minutes ago: they killed all your men and took the recording back
- James Heller: Is Audrey alright?
- Jack Bauer: She's fine. You cut your deal with Logan?
- James Heller: Logan accepted my terms, and then he took a call and suddenly changed his mind
- Jack Bauer: That call must've come from Henderson
- James Heller: We have to get that recording back: if there's anything I can do to help, let me know
- Jack Bauer: With all due respect Mr. Secretary I asked you for your help and you betrayed me
- James Heller: I did what I thought was best for this country. I made a mistake, please forgive me
- Jack Bauer: [Before hanging up] I need to go sir
- Bill Buchanan: [Over the phone, at his home referring to himself and Chloe] we've been waiting to hear from you: did you get the recording to Secretary Heller?
- Jack Bauer: I don't have time to explain. Henderson's got the recording, I need Chloe to help me find it but I can't reach her
- Bill Buchanan: She's here, she was arrested by Homeland Security for helping you but managed to get away
- Jack Bauer: Put her on speaker
- Chloe O'Brian: Where are you?
- Jack Bauer: Van Nuys Airport, listen to me, Henderson left here ten minutes ago with a recording that implicates President Logan. I need you to access CTU's data streams so we can find him
- Chloe O'Brian: If I log onto their system, they're going to eventually find me no matter what I do
- Jack Bauer: I don't need you to track him for long: do you think you can do it?
- Chloe O'Brian: I guess I can try and slip in through the subnet
- Jack Bauer: Get back to me when you're in
- Chloe O'Brian: I'll set up a VPN pathway so they can't trace our call but it'll only work with the phone you're using
- President Charles Logan: [Over the phone] you need to cancel the "action" against Henderson immediately
- Graem Bauer: Why?
- President Charles Logan: He has the recording but his made "arrangements" to have the recording released if anything happens to him
- Graem Bauer: You should've exercised more control over him
- President Charles Logan: There's a limit on how much I can do
- Graem Bauer: Apparently
- President Charles Logan: Don't you use that tone with me: we both made mistakes today
- Graem Bauer: Your right, my apologies but the fact is we have a bigger problem than Henderson
- President Charles Logan: What? What're you talking about?
- Graem Bauer: At least he can be trusted to act rationally in his own interests. Unfortunately it's not true of your wife
- President Charles Logan: My wife?
- Graem Bauer: Apparently there's a Secret Service Agent Aaron Pierce, knows a little more than he should and he intends to share that with Martha
- President Charles Logan: I'm well aware of that and have taken steps to deal with Pierce
- Graem Bauer: But the real problem is Mrs.. Logan: she continues to talk, to ask questions, and talk about her suspicions
- President Charles Logan: People don't take her seriously, they think she's unstable
- Graem Bauer: There are too many "loose ends" lying around. We cannot afford to have her pull on one and unravel everything
- President Charles Logan: You think I don't realize that?
- Graem Bauer: I think you are in a very difficult position and you've been hoping this situation with Martha would resolve itself but it hasn't. You must silence her
- President Charles Logan: I know but I'll handle this myself
- President Charles Logan: [Over the phone] is Bauer dead?
- Christopher Henderson: No
- President Charles Logan: What happened?
- Christopher Henderson: All it matters is I have the recording
- President Charles Logan: Have you destroyed it?
- Christopher Henderson: No Sir, I have not
- President Charles Logan: Why? What's the problem?
- Christopher Henderson: Actually I'm making sure there won't be any "problem"
- President Charles Logan: I don't understand
- Christopher Henderson: I may need "protection", that recording gives it to me
- President Charles Logan: "Protection"?
- Christopher Henderson: Yes Sir
- President Charles Logan: Do you mean from me? That's absurd
- Christopher Henderson: With all due respect, it isn't absurd. As evident by Walt Cummings' "suicide"
- President Charles Logan: That was different: you told me yourself that was necessary
- Christopher Henderson: And I'm assuming one day others will tell you the very same thing about me
- President Charles Logan: You and I have been in this from the beginning. Destroying that recording protects both of us
- Christopher Henderson: I'm sorry, I give you my word it'll be kept in a very safe place and will only be made public if I should meet in some "accident"
- President Charles Logan: This is completely unnecessary
- Christopher Henderson: [Before hanging up] I'm sure it is Sir, and again, I am a very cautious man
- Mark Wexler: Agent Pierce was transferred
- Martha Logan: That's what you keep saying, but it doesn't make any sense: not without a warning
- Mark Wexler: We work around the clock ma'am. It's quite common for agents to be pulled off at odd hours
- Martha Logan: Right when his supposed to have a meeting with the First Lady of the United States?
- Mark Wexler: I don't know anything about a "meeting"
- Martha Logan: Well, I do. I found Aaron's phone laying on the ground: right where we were supposed to meet. Now I want you to find Agent Pierce and I want him back here right now
- Mark Wexler: There's a "glitch" in the scheduling, software, I cannot pull that up right now
- Martha Logan: Are these "glitches" quite "common as well?
- Mark Wexler: Actually no
- Justin Adams: [after entering the room, to Martha] I'm Agent Adams, I think I can explain everything
- Martha Logan: [Waiting for his explanation] well?
- Justin Adams: This is a sensitive issue ma'am, President Logan would like you to come with me
- Chloe O'Brian: [Over the speakerphone at Bill's home] yeah?
- Jack Bauer: Henderson wasn't lying: he doesn't have the recording on him
- Chloe O'Brian: Could it be in his car?
- Jack Bauer: No, he wouldn't have left it behind. There must've been some kind of "hand off"
- Chloe O'Brian: What'd you mean?
- Jack Bauer: That would explain why he wasn't further ahead when I left Van Nuys Air Field, he must've stopped off and given it to someone
- Chloe O'Brian: Ok, I'll back trace the route with the satellite: see if I can spot anything
- Jack Bauer: [Before hanging up] yeah
- Audrey Raines: What's happening?
- Jack Bauer: The person gave the recording to, just boarded a plane at Van Nuys Airfield
- Audrey Raines: Why aren't you going now?
- Jack Bauer: I'll go as soon as Curtis gets here: his not far
- Audrey Raines: I'll be fine until then
- Jack Bauer: I'm not leaving you here alone
- Audrey Raines: If you don't get that recording, my father will have died for nothing
- Audrey Raines: [after Jack is silent] Jack... for me
- Jack Bauer: Henderson is secure: when he regains consciousness. I don't want you to go anywhere near him, you don't talk to him, you understand me?
- Audrey Raines: I understand
- Jack Bauer: [after placing his gun next to her] we have to assume his people are still looking for him. They're going to be monitoring all non-VPN cell traffic which means you can't make or receive any calls unless they come from me
- Jack Bauer: [Handing her the phone] this is Wexler's cell, I got the number
- Audrey Raines: Alright
- Jack Bauer: I don't feel right about this
- Audrey Raines: I'm going to be alright
- Chloe O'Brian: [Over the speakerphone at Bill's home] you were right, I found the hand off: Henderson stopped and Rendezvous with another car, I'm sorry I didn't see it before
- Jack Bauer: Can you track the other car?
- Bill Buchanan: We're tracking it now, it headed back to Van Nuys, looks like the civilian side of the airfield, pulled onto the tarmac, whoever it was, got directly onto the plane
- Jack Bauer: Isn't air traffic still grounded?
- Bill Buchanan: Yeah, this is not a commercial flight, I'll find out what I can about it
- Chloe O'Brian: The plan is servicing: it's about to take off
- Jack Bauer: Has Curtis been relieved of his duty or is he still attached to CTU?
- Bill Buchanan: His at CTU taking orders from Homeland Security but I think we can trust him
- Jack Bauer: Where is he?
- Chloe O'Brian: [while looking at computer screen] according to the deployment grid, his twenty five miles west of you with a Tact team
- Jack Bauer: Bill, I want you to call him, get him to this location as soon as possible, I want to transfer Henderson and Audrey back to CTU
- Chloe O'Brian: Are you sure that's a good idea? Homeland's in control of CTU
- Jack Bauer: Curtis will be able to protect them: right now it's our best chance to secure Henderson and get Audrey the medical attention she needs
- Bill Buchanan: I'm calling Curtis now
- Jack Bauer: [Before hanging up] thanks
- Miles Papazian: [after walking into her office] Vladimir Bierko has regained consciousness but we're still waiting for the medical assessment to be finished before we can interrogate him
- Karen Hayes: Let me know when they give us the go ahead
- Miles Papazian: [Handing her the file] final protocol shifts: you can tell Washington the transfer authority from CTU to Homeland Security is officially complete
- Karen Hayes: [Dismissively] Ok
- Miles Papazian: Two hours ahead of schedule, that is remarkable
- Karen Hayes: I'm sorry, my head is somewhere else
- Miles Papazian: Where?
- Karen Hayes: We gave the President Bauer's location over an hour ago. We should've heard something by now
- Miles Papazian: The military is handling Bauer
- Karen Hayes: Yes I know, this doesn't make any sense: the President insisted we redirect our focus from Henderson to Bauer. We find Bauer, and then he hands the mission over to the military
- Miles Papazian: We're out of that loop
- Karen Hayes: [Sternly] why did you let Chloe escape?
- Shari Rothenberg: [after being escorted to Karen's office by security] she intimidated me
- Karen Hayes: She intimidated you? Sit down: you are in a great deal of trouble. You had better start talking to me now
- Shari Rothenberg: She said she'd recommend me for psychiatric evaluation, I'd lose my job. I'm sorry, there's something wrong with me I know that. I'd probably see someone...
- Karen Hayes: [Interrupts her] did Chloe tell you why she was helping Audrey Raines and Bauer?
- Shari Rothenberg: She thinks Jack is innocent
- Karen Hayes: Based on what?
- Shari Rothenberg: Based on an absurd idea that President Logan framed Bauer. She even said President Logan being involved in the assassination of David Palmer. I mean... can you believe her?
- President Charles Logan: Calm down alright? Aaron's fine. I just transferred him back to Washington that's all
- Martha Logan: In the middle of the night? It doesn't make any sense, and why am I locked in this room?
- President Charles Logan: Because we need to talk
- Martha Logan: About what?
- President Charles Logan: I've been wanting to tell you this but I told myself you were too fragile to handle it but that's not the truth. The truth is I kept this from you is because it's horrible and because it's ugly
- Martha Logan: What're you talking about?
- President Charles Logan: What happened to David Palmer wasn't supposed to happen: he put himself in harm's way and he got involved in something he shouldn't have
- Martha Logan: What're you saying?
- President Charles Logan: That I never authorized his death
- Martha Logan: You mean you know who killed David?
- President Charles Logan: Yes
- Martha Logan: How do you know that?
- President Charles Logan: [Referring to the assassin] he works for me
- Martha Logan: What?
- President Charles Logan: It's very complicated. There's an explanation
- Ron: Are you sure we're going to get through this the way we planned?
- Graem Bauer: What does that mean?
- Ron: There are too many loose ends
- Graem Bauer: Our operation doesn't have loose ends: of course we're not going to get through this the way we planned. No one ever does, I have never made a deal in my life that I didn't think it was going to fall apart in the "eleventh hour." Now if you don't have the stomach to deal with a "few bumps", "this" is not the room where you belong. That goes for all of you who are starting to have doubts. I can smell it and I don't like it. You need to remember the strength we had eighteen months ago, when we started this "thing." are we ok Ron?
- Ron: Yeah
- Mike Novick: [Over the phone, after looking at his watch] how are things going over there?
- Karen Hayes: It's a bit of a rough transition from CTU to Homeland but we're getting through it
- Mike Novick: That's good to hear, what'd you need?
- Karen Hayes: I need some clarification: we were sent over here on a directive from the White House but we've been "exclusively" dealing with Vice President Gardener until about two hours ago
- Mike Novick: What happened two hours ago?
- Karen Hayes: The President called me himself and ordered me to arrest Jack Bauer on evidence he was unwilling to share with me
- Mike Novick: Yes, I know about that
- Karen Hayes: Have you seen the evidence?
- Mike Novick: No, actually I haven't
- Karen Hayes: Who has seen it?
- Mike Novick: I don't have a good answer to that
- Karen Hayes: Are you telling me you're not in the loop?
- Mike Novick: Actually I don't think there is a loop: the President is keeping his own "counsel" at the moment
- Karen Hayes: That's a first
- Mike Novick: Yes, it is
- Karen Hayes: Is there anything else you want to tell me?
- Mike Novick: Nothing I can say with any "authority." All I know is that it's been a strange night
- Karen Hayes: I see
- Mike Novick: I wish I could be more helpful
- Karen Hayes: [Before hanging up] no, actually you've been very helpful, thank you
- Martha Logan: You lied to me. Everything- this whole day has been one giant lie! What you've done makes me sick!
- President Charles Logan: Martha, enough! I know that what I did... what I allowed to happen, was a mistake. It was a terrible mistake. But it's done. Right now I need you to swear to me that you will do as I ask for the country, Martha.
- Martha Logan: I've forgiven you many things, Charles. But not this. You've broken my heart. I'm looking at you, and I hate you. But I will keep my mouth shut because the people in this country don't deserve to suffer. You do, Charles. You do.
- President Charles Logan: Martha, do you realize how traumatic this would be for the country, if people were to find out?
- Martha Logan: [sarcastic] "Oh yes, we're worried about the *country*..."
- President Charles Logan: Damn it, Martha! That's the most important part of this! This scandal would destroy the American people's faith in their government. It would destroy our credibility all over the world.
