James McCaffrey, a seasoned veteran of the small screen and the voice of the iconic video game character Max Payne, has died.
He was 65.
According to reports, McCaffrey died Sunday of multiple myeloma cancer.
He was probably most well-known to non-video game players for his work on Rescue Me, where he played Jimmy Keefe.
Keefe was a New York firefighter who lost his life on 9/11.
He appears as a ghost to his cousin, played by Denis Leary, and his character drives some of Leary's richest scenes as Leary's character tries to understand the loss and why he's still alive.
McCaffrey had a series regular role for the first three seasons before switching to a recurring capacity for the final four seasons.
The FX hit also starred John Scurti, Michael Lombardi, Steven Pasquale, and Andrea Roth.
Throughout his career, the actor had countless credits across movies, TV, and video games.

Iggy Pop, Shirley Manson, and Cat Power are a few of the artists who’ve contributed to The Faithful: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull, an upcoming covers compilation honoring the legendary English singer. Before it’s out in full December 8th, Tanya Donelly & The Parkington Sisters have shared their rendition of “This Little Bird.”
Also featuring fellow icons like Peaches, Lydia Lunch, Bush Tetras, Donita Sparks, and more, The Faithful is a benefit album that hits especially close to home: All profits will go directly to assist Faithfull as she recovers from long Covid. Two years ago, Marianne Faithfull told Rolling Stone about her ongoing battle with Covid-19. “It’s terrible,” she said. “I got long-term Covid, where you get better from the virus, but you have leftover [symptoms]. Apparently, they now think that you do get better from long-term Covid; it’s not forever. That is good.”

“The Sopranos” star Drea de Matteo announced in late August that she was launching an OnlyFans account that followers could subscribe to for $15 a month. Now in an interview with Fox News Digital, the actor explained that pivoting to OnlyFans came as a result of losing acting work over the last couple of years due to her stance against Covid vaccine mandates.
“I know some people have said some nasty things about me having joined OnlyFans,” de Matteo said. “But, you know, the way we see it in this house is mommy’s a warrior, not accepting defeat…I figured, ‘Ok, so everybody’s in their underwear and being sexy on Instagram and I don’t do that, but I can do that and get paid for it’…I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner.”

On Saturday morning, civilian hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station after they found the remains, which were then taken to the San Bernardino County Coroner for identification.
“The identification process for the body located on Mt. In the 1960s, Marianne Faithfull became a key figure in the British Invasion, running in the same circles as The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, and she continues to be a working artist today. After decades in the music industry, Faithfull has survived a lot. She has spoken extensively about her life, music career, and relationships. Here’s what she’s doing today.

"We are all accomplices in the dream world of the soul."—Derek Jarman, Kicking the PricksDerek Jarman was a filmmaker, set designer, gardener, writer, and activist. But to list off items of Jarman’s biography in such a manner does not come close to being able to comprehend the magnitude of his singular artistry. Over the course of his life Jarman created a visual language of love, politics, and poetry through moving images.I recall the memory well, picking up a copy of Projections (Derek Jarman's Films From The Pet Shop Boys' First Tour), an Artificial Eye VHS tape that I found as a teenager in a charity shop in my small coastal hometown. The case stood out instantly. It became a piece of a puzzle that awakened within me the possibilities of film as an artform that could expand narrative—that film was also a visual representation of musicality and feeling.

For its list of new releases of February 2022, HBO Max is bringing back one of its biggest original series.
The Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi epic Raised by Wolves helped launch HBO Max back in 2020 and now it’s finally back for another season. Raised by Wolves season 2 premieres with three episodes on Feb. 3. This season will continue the conflict between future atheists and theists on a remote planet, while two androids raise some kids.
February 2022 also sees the end of another, more recent HBO Max hit. Peacemaker airs its finale on Feb. 17. Thankfully that same day sees the premiere of another exciting original. Dream Raider is a Mandarin-language sci-fi thriller that carries some big Inception vibes.
There aren’t many original movies of note this month, but there are a lot of recent hits coming to HBO Max as library titles. Nightmare Alley arrives on Feb. 1, followed by The Many Saints of Newark on Feb.

Marianne Faithfull has lived several lifetimes in her 74 years. She was only 17 when the pop song “As Tears Go By” turned her into a star overnight in 1964, and she was in her early twenties when her relationship with Mick Jagger made her a tabloid lightning rod. After that ended, she fell deep into drugs, living for a while on the streets, before making a stunning comeback in 1979 with Broken English, an album of dark-hued, New Wave–influenced music that complemented the way her voice had grown deeper and more profound.

If there’s been one constant about Latino representation in Hollywood, it’s been the abysmal representation that has barely shifted in decades.
Despite some gains in recent years, a 2019 study from the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative revealed that underrepresentation and stereotypical roles for U.S.-based Latinx talent are, sadly, still the norm.

Born into upper crust society with a father who was a British intelligence officer and a mother whose own father was an Austrian-Hungarian nobleman, Faithfull became a wildly successful international singer during the British Invasion with her hit As Tears Go By. Her romantic relationship with Mick Jagger and her influence on one of the most creative periods for the Rolling Stones — You Can’t Always Get What You Want and Wild Horses were two songs she influenced — became an overshadowing factor.

Happy 50th birthday today to the one and only Parker Posey. The 'Queen of Indies' of the 1990s isn't as celebrated these days and, frankly, we could use a lot more of her. So we're eager to read her hilariously titled memoir (pictured left) which was published this summer. Hollywood has always been a bit confused about her but we're relieved that she didn't just vanish after that first decade of fame but instead forged a patchwork kind of career mixing supporting roles in indies, tv movies, the occasional mainstream feature, and guest starring and recurring characters on TV. She's currently starring in Netflix's reboot of Lost in Space (where she plays the shady Dr Smith) and she's also recently completed filming a new indie called Elsewhere.
For her birthday we thought we'd share a list of her greatest performances. Posey is such a curiousity that...

Beginning with 1979’s acrimonious Broken English, Marianne Faithfull has spent the last four decades gracefully transitioning into the Grande Dame of Melancholy, the High Priestess of Dusky Rock, capable of bridging the chasm between Kurt Weill’s dramatic ballads and the gothy rock of artists like Nick Cave and Pj Harvey. Her deep, complex voice is cuts through the darkness with ease. Her latest, Negative Capability, continues her long string of late-career masterworks. She revisits her breakthrough hit, “As Tears Go By,” but the world-weariness of her voice gives it new depth,...

Marianne Faithfull feels out of sorts. “I have a cold, the weather’s been terribly hard here in Paris and, what else … well, the usual,” she says on a call from her home in the City of Lights. “I’ve got to have a shoulder replacement, so I’m in a lot of pain.” Despite living in a state of discomfort, her voice sounds strong and there’s something about how her words come through her London accent that suggests confidence. “In the end it will be much better,” she concedes.

The costume designer Stacey Battat has, to date, worked mostly in female-oriented contemporary indies. That's quite a perfect niche to build a design career from. Or at least it is when the women who've visually helped define your early work are such stylish talented icons themselves. Battat first made her mark on two Parker Posey features in the late Aughts (Broken English, Happy Tears). Soon after she was deep in the Julianne Moore business (Still Alice, Freeheld, What Maisie Knew). Other credits include The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her and Him and Mozart in the Jungle but it's been her partnership with writer/director Sofia Coppola that's come to define her young career.
The two began working together on the La dreamy Somewhere (2010). Battat proved invaluable to all the fashiongasms of Coppola's arguably most underrated feature The Bling Ring (2013). Then came an atypical challenge: a forgotten girls...

What does a French billionaire want with James Franco?
The sun sets over these last and barren weeks of madness we call March. What remains of snowfall turns into slosh as students blink slowly into sobriety. “Spring Break, Spring Break, Spring Break forever,” an icy voice chants. But good news: that creepy voice just might have its demands met. A mysterious streaming platform called Blackpills has, per Deadline, now committed to distributing a scripted micro-episodic series based on Harmony Korine’s 2012 hyper-stylized meditation of life, love and spring break that starred James Franco, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens.
The production company behind Spring Breakers, Fernando Sulichin and Chris Hanley’s Muse Productions (Buffalo ’66, Virgin Suicides), are more than thrilled. Hanley excitedly tells Deadline that the proposed micro-episode format is “the future of digital media.” Korine, on the other hand, has asserted his lack of interest in the project: busy, as he is, in...

Who’ll Stop the Train?: Apatow Matures with Schumer’s Impressive Skills
The most inappropriate element of Judd Apatow’s latest film Trainwreck is its title, which promises to be a bawdy, crass marathon of blatant innuendo with a high potential for poor taste, if judging solely by its marketing publicity and reputation of its director and star/writer, comedian Amy Schumer. What a surprise to find not only a rather mature but even sensible depiction of generally undiscussed difficulties concerning relationships. Schumer shines in her own generously concocted marinade, deftly spinning an excellent characterization for herself while managing a surprising amount of appealing supporting characters. With a running time just falling over the two hour mark, you’re bound to find a few instances worthy of trimming, but Schumer’s pleasurable hurricane hits almost all its marks, a thankful reprieve from the usual glut of testosterone fueled R rated adult studio comedies.

Zoe Cassavetes’ 2007 debut feature “Broken English,” starring Parker Posey, is an astutely realized portrait of a woman struggling to find herself while searching for love. It’s an underrated picture, and eight years has been far too long between features for Cassavetes, who debuted her second film “Day Out of Days,” at the Los Angeles Film Festival this week. While following a similar theme of a woman adrift and searching for meaning, this film replaces work in place of love as a self-worth defining element. For actresses in Hollywood, their work isn’t always in their control, due to sexism, ageism and other outside influences, and Cassavetes deftly explores these issues with a great deal of nuance and an unflinching eye. Days Go By: Cassavetes Returns with Industry Commentary
It’s a tale as old as cinema itself, the dismissive and apathetic attitude towards ageing women in a youth obsessed, commodified film industry. And yet, director Zoe Cassavetes manages to make her own worthwhile entry with Day Out of Days, a project conceived, developed, and co-written with lead actress Alexia Landeau. As impossibly difficult as the landscape is for an actress, the female director suffers comparable obstacles in sustaining a lucrative filmmaking career, and it’s been eight years since Cassavetes made her stunningly eloquent debut with 2007’s Broken English, a film featuring Parker Posey in a career best turn. Whatever the cause of the hiatus (though she’s turned out several short films in the interim), this sophomore feature is a more than welcome return from a director with a particular knack for capturing characters at a difficult crossroads. There's at least one name you might know in the Los Angeles Film Festival's Muse lineup: Zoe Cassavetes, daughter of John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands, who makes her first film since 2007 breakout "Broken English" with "Day Out of Days." The Hollywood-set comedy follows a middling actress, now 40, who struggles to navigate the cutthroat world of Tinseltown while trying to relaunch her career. When given an unusual chance to return to the spotlight, the film takes strange, humiliating turns. "Day Out of Days" premieres Sunday night at Laff. The cast includes Alexia Landeau, Eddie Izzard, Melanie Griffith, Cheyenne Jackson, Alessandro Nivola, Brooke Smith, Bellamy Young, Vincent Kartheiser, Matt Letscher and Josh Stamberg. It is currently seeking Us distribution.

Welcome to another horror/sci-fi round-up! This time around we have word of two big cast confirmations for Independence Day 2, details on Scream Factory's Deep in the Darkness Blu-ray / DVD release, and information on the new Blanc/Biehn Productions film, Treachery.
Independence Day 2: Last night it was revealed that the first official cast member had signed on to star in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day 2, the sequel to his 1996 film that featured massive alien-induced destruction and larger-than-life characters. It's now been confirmed that one of those characters will be coming back, as Emmerich tweeted last night that Jeff Goldblum will appear in the sequel, likely reprising his role as the brainy and dryly humorous David Levinson, who teamed up with fighter pilot Captain Steven Hiller to take down the mothership in the original film. Smith will not be coming back to reprise his role as Steven.

It’s not uncommon to see a filmmaker essentially break out with a hit film (in baseball lingo this wasn’t a home run, but an ernest double) at Sundance, and then, for a multitude of reasons both known or unknown, not strike while the iron is hot. While still an active member of what I would call a French-u.S galpal filmmaker clique, the name of Zoe Cassavetes has painfully been absent from the indie scene since her feature film debut Broken English (2007) landed in Park City. Working with the ageism theme, more specifically, the drawbacks of working as an actress in/against/for the Hollywood system that were recently touched upon in Olivier Assayas’ Sils Maria and David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars, Cassavetes muse and co-writer Alexia Landeau (also featured in sister Xan Cassavetes’ Kiss of the Damned) has according to the Deadline folks toplined Cassavetes’ sophomore film. Melanie Griffith, Eddie Izzard, Cheyenne Jackson, Vincent Kartheiser, Alessandro Nivola, Brooke Smith and Bellamy Young also star in the pic that went went into production last month. Produced by Gina Kwon (The Future) and Kate Roughan, look for Day Out Of Days to have a Sundance berth.

Exclusive: After her debut feature Broken English snagged distribution out of Sundance and a pair of Independent Spirit Award nominations, filmmaker Zoe Cassavetes linked up with actress pal Alexia Landeau to write her sophomore feature. Landeau, who appeared in Cassavetes’ first film, the 2000 short Men Make Women Crazy Theory, now leads the Day Out Of Days cast as a 40-year-old actress struggling to make it in the cutthroat business of Hollywood while contending with ever-youthful competition.
Joining Landeau in Day Out Of Days are Melanie Griffith, Eddie Izzard, Cheyenne Jackson, Vincent Kartheiser, Alessandro Nivola, Brooke Smith and Bellamy Young. Since first finding her feet as an actress in promos for Sonic Youth and Madonna before moving on into directing, Sofia Coppola has inextricably melded her observations from the music scene into the DNA of her cinematic efforts. Though she’s filtered both worlds through an affectionate and melancholic tone, a strong sense of humor has crept in as well, and as with Spike Jonze and his “Jackass” origins, we’ve got a taste of Coppola’s early days involving herself in some truly manic shenanigans. In 1994, Coppola teamed with her best friend, actress/director Zoe Cassavetes (“Broken English”), to co-host and co-direct a grand, surreal season of television for Comedy Central. Entitled “Hi Octane”, the show’s format saw Sofia and Zoe hang with filmmaker and musician friends including Beck, Thurston Moore, and The Beastie Boys, act in some mildly-successful sketches, and also engage in a number of auto-related...
