Father Brown is called to The Theatre to look for a young girl, a runaway, and encourage her to return home, there he gets embroiled in a case of murder, once again he's assisted by Flambeau.
I don't think this is the strongest possible episode, as the mystery itself is on the weaker side, but the setting and characters make it so watchable. The stage acting is wonderfully theatrical and over the top, and at times it spills over into the main body of the story, but it's somehow in keeping.
It's hard not to enjoy it though, what made me smile, was the inevitably of the victim, it had an almost murder, she wrote vibe, as if there was a pointed arrow, in flashing lights shouting 'murder victim.'
Kenneth More and Dennis Burgess are once again excellent as the seasoned regulars, the acting overall is good, the style suits the story, I thought Rachel Gurney and John Stratton were great, it's always good to see Roberta Tovey, and as always that cold, icy delivery if Sheila Keith was excellent.
