Some bits and pieces of re-hashed plot ideas that were thrown together by some bored Sci-Fi channel employees one day.
A sloppy mess that tries to impersonate sci-fi with something about terra-forming a planet (a la "Search for Spock"). However, it rapidly degenerates into just another "big mutated monster killing screaming victims in the forest one by one" story. A greedy and plotting mega-bucks corporation CEO is behind it all, and sends some scientists to study the planet, using a second-hand transporter from an old Star Trek back-lot. The pre-owned transporter has more than a million light years on it, so it doesn't work right, conveniently stranding the group.
As if that isn't bad enough, they encounter an "indigenous alien" that looks suspiciously like some Animal Planet footage, (which may be where they got the title). You simply won't believe what they use for alien life in this film. From then on, it's just a series of kills with red paint or CGI passed off as gore. Horrible CGI splices footage of actors and Animal Planet footage together. Hokey dialog, shallow stereotyped characters, and the same footage used over and over in every attack/fight scene finish the recipe.
Inept and cheap, but you'll laugh so hard you won't care. Savage Planet is certainly a lot funnier than lousy comedies like "Love Guru." It's free, too.
