A decent adaptation of Lovecraft

Warning: Spoilers
Adapting Lovecraft into film is often a hard task.

Many of his writings often leave many things to imagination, a quality often used to appeal our instinctive fear to the unknown. (And a key element of their timeless darkness)

"The Music of Erich Zann" is one of these Lovecraft stories that leave a lot to the imagination, being complete unrelated to any of his mythos deities, being an stand-alone horror story dealing with some unspecified, unknown force.

It has a certain gothic eeriness that made it closer to Poe than the rest of his ouvre, but still a pretty excellent anyway.

This short stop-motion animation does a more or less faithful adaptation of that tale, albeit taking a couple of liberties with the source material: For starters, instead of playing the viol, Erich Zann plays the piano. And instead of taking place for several weeks, the whole story takes place in one night.

Despite the somewhat unpolished look of the characters (I must say I found the appearence of the character playing the role of the narrator in original text kinda goofy) the sceneries were pretty well constructed, with a nice, dark atmosphere and build-up.

The ending was somewhat underwhelming compared with the original text. (Like I said, the vague, chaotic horrors described by Lovecraft are often hard to translate into film) Still, it was a decent effort, interesting to watch.

6.5/10.

the next big thing in stop-motion

this is a amazing little stop-motion movie with a dark but strange and so long funny story.

you can see clearly there was a lot of creative and innovative artwork for the 8 minutes. its incredible!

see it and love it.

good luck for the next director-projects, i hope "Die Musik Des Erich" is the next big thing in Germanys little stop-motion scene.

i've heard the movie loped at any young (trick film) festivals all around Europe. be careful for the advertisement in your next festival in the following months.

Terrific little stop-motion movie.

This short and mute German animation based on one of the deeper short stories written by the great master of horror, HP Lovecraft, is "wunderbar"! The details, the sound, the lightening, everything is top notch! It even manages to hold a creepy atmosphere throughout the film and gets a little scary at some times. If you are a fan of Lovecraft or animated movies or both, do yourself a favor and watch this movie!

It is available to watch for free on the internet so there is no excuse not to watch this terrific little movie.

I give "Die Musik des Erich Zann" 8.0 out of 10.

It's weird... But not in a bad way

Die Musik des Erich Zann is one of the most unique and atmospheric movies i've ever seen. It is so different and dark, the colors, designs, movement, everything is very impressive for an old indie stop motion animation.

The movie is based on the same name history by H. P Lovecraft, and it's very different but this isn't a bad thing. Some changes are very notable (like Erich Zann being a pianist beside a violinist), but the history itself keeps the same, and i think that's the charm of the movie. It's the same history, but with it's own way to tell.

I loved it so much. If you like horror things, watch it. 9/10.

(Also, sorry for any mistakes in the text, i'm Brazilian and i'm still learning how to write in english :) )
