A week before S&man was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of 2006, then-independent movie news website Twitch published an investigative report that publicly exposed it as a hoaxumentary rather than a documentary, which it was being promoted as.
A "hoaxumentary" is an ostensible documentary that, as a hoax against viewers, presents fiction material as being, or possibly being, non-fictional. (Note that it may actually be comprised primarily of non-fiction material.) It differs from a mockumentary in that the latter doesn't seek to deceive viewers into believing that fiction material in it is, or may be, non-fictional.
