Thought -provoking and enjoyable

Warning: Spoilers
A highly enjoyable show featuring the talents of the, in my opinion, highly underrated Lili Taylor. "State of Mind" is a grown-up version of "Grey's Anatomy" with characters that are more sympathetic and fully fleshed-out, not the cardboard cut-outs from other medical shows on television now. Where "State of Mind" really excels is in the "fantasy" sequences, being highly plausible. The direction is slick, the scripts brilliant and the acting by the excellent cast is top-notch. I cannot understand why it should have been cancelled over rubbish like "Greys Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" which owe their success more to the attractiveness of their cast than to actual talent on-screen.

Kind Of a Mess
jennyjonesie26 August 2007
I started watching this Lifetime show because I typically like Lili Taylor and Amy Bloom, but the resulting show is kind of a mess. Think Grey's Anatomy in a psychiatry office. There are too many central characters and not enough focus on any particular one. Lili Taylor's character's story lines tend to be the most consistently featured, but that's the only reason to call her the central character. Otherwise the characters' stories seem pretty random and stereotypically "quirky." There needs to be more focus on one particular character, and some trimming of some of the other characters' story lines. I hope that someone--whether Amy Bloom or some network executive--can get a hold on the reins of the show before it goes down the tubes.
