Producer and writer Buddy Atkinson wrote this classic episode, the man of comedy, who came up with all sorts of crazy stories for the Clampetts. This has got to be one of the wildest as Jethro embarks on a military career, although he has a hidden agenda, hoping to rocket to the moon! Without fail, Mr. Drysdale gets into the action, the master manipulator when it comes to money and publicity. Of course, Miss Jane has her doubts, which always ring true. Wait for the ending. One of the best props has got to be the miniature silver rocket that Jethro is strapped to (in the Clampett driveway) ready for BLAST OFF! The prop people definitely had to be credited for some outrageous inventions, made from cardboard, plywood and whatever, but the rocket takes the cake. It's the best of the best. Max Baer is the whole show here, although rambunctious Granny (Irene Ryan) can steal a scene, especially drinking some XXX on the sly. Baer was the son of boxing star Max Baer, Sr. And, unknown to many, could have had a career in golf as he was a champion junior golf player in his teens. He switched to acting and the rest is history, cast as one of the funniest tv characters ever. Baer, a wise businessman, later became a movie producer and was quite successful with the cult film MACON COUNTY LINE. He later got into real estate and promoted his own casino. Watch this one, just for outrageousness. SEASON 6 EPISODE 11 dvd box set.
