A silly comedy that entertains
Gordon-112 January 2009
This film is about a supermodel plus secret agent infiltrating a prostitution gang to save her girlfriend from evil human parts traffickers.

"Starrbooty" is a gross out, camp and ultra silly comedy, but it has this special something to interest viewers. The plot is contrived and silly, and seems to be an excuse to bring on soft porn and dance routines. Acting is over the top, and voices are so artificially dubbed that it feels as if the audio and visual elements are completely separate.

But then, "Starrbooty" does not pretend to be a well executed or artistic film. It defines itself as a brainless comedy, and sticks to being just that. It serves the purpose of being entertaining, killing an evening with some laughs and feel good moments.

One of the worst spoofs of all time
frenchjr2510 February 2008
Okay,. so I went into this loving RuPaul. I still love him/her but think a little less. This is one gross movie that shows a lot of male genitalia. THis is a spoof of the 1970s black exploitation films and is purposefully done badly. The only fun part about it for me is that all of the voices have been looped with those of drag queens, even the voices of real women. This is over an the top, nonstop, laugh your rear end off it is so stupid, badly made movie. I would never watch this again but I do appreciate what the film makers were trying to do. There is no rating on this but it would be R or even NC-17. RuPaul has done much better work.

I gave up on this after 30 minutes
preppy-323 April 2009
Ru Paul plays a secret agent called Starrbooty. She teams up with another drag queen agent to fight the evil Annaka Manners (Candis Cayne)and get her kidnapped niece back...or something like that. Seriously-- I had trouble concentrating on the plot! The movie is seemingly directed by somebody with severe ADD--quick camera cuts nonstop that make it impossible to focus on anything. The dialogue is incomprehensible at times and when you can hear it you wish it remained incomprehensible! The acting is actually pretty OK except for Ru Paul who overacts to an embarrassing degree. Also the film is full of disgusting bathroom humor that is just revolting and not even remotely funny. After 30 minutes I had to leave because I was bored, sick and just couldn't stand it anymore. I pride myself on sitting through anything but this went WAY beyond my limits! People are comparing this to the early work of John Waters. I disagree. Waters' work is sick but good--this is just sick. Avoid.

If you like early John Waters...
smburke5 April 2008
This movie is from a parallel universe where John Waters perfected the art of movies centered on seven-foot-tall fierce black drag queens.

JW himself wasn't involved at all in this movie, BUT.

Like an early/classic John Waters film, the acting is as broad as a battleship (altho Ru is perfect Ru, all the time); and similarly too, the budget was somewhere between "exactly nothing", and "barely paid for leasing the cameras". But it works! As movies go, this isn't exactly /Blade Runner/, but it's worth a rent.

After a movie full of taekwondo, half-chubs, and evil hostage-takers, the last scene is charming and sweet-- and then as the camera pulls back to end that last scene, be prepared to be dumbfounded by something sweeter still. Those last five seconds of the movie are something you couldn't come up with on a $200M budget even if you tried.

I love this movie!! A new camp classic!

Its funny to read these reviews of "StarrBooty" even though I happen to have voiceovers in this film , Id STILL love it anyways

I do the voice of Corneisha, which one reviewer had said they used "real womens voices " to overdub some of the drag queens and transsexuals. haa haa its a man too !!

RuPaul pays homage to John Waters, Tamara Dobson, Pam Grier, Mommie Dearest, The Naked Gun, Paris Is Burning & James Bond in one dynamite thriller!!

made with little to no budget but all great script and kick ass performances of the talent involved. Its important to remember that all of John Waters early films were critically reviled , and took years by word of mouth to make it into the mainstream fringe of cinema.

This project is a dream Ru has had for some time, for the original "Starrbooty" series he made in the 1980s in Atlanta were done with a cam corder and 2 vCr's so this new y2k version is much more stepped up & is shot so well by director Mike Ruiz. its a Great character to run wild and have fun with , RuPaul really delivers.

Candis Cayne from ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money" plays the evil cosmetic magnate villain ness Annika Manners so wickedly and fun, absolutely brilliant !

its a bit of a departure for America's drag queen sweetheart , always playing comedy or bit parts on films , to have made such a sexually graphic film that shows the inside world of hooking in Meat market (albeit rather exxxagerated , but not too far off from how its really done..)

Pick up Starrbooty the next time friends are over, its a camp classic! You'll all be quoting lines in no time!
