A new CNN documentary series that examines the 2003 Space Shuttle disaster is the latest effort by the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed outlet to help its original-production arm regain momentum.
“Space Shuttle Columbia: The Final Flight” relies on footage that has never been broadcast before as well as exclusive interviews. The four-part series will air Sunday April 7 and Sunday April 14,both at 9 p.m. eastern, with two hours broadcast each evening. The program is co-produced by BBC and Mindhouse Productions.
“This chapter in the Space Shuttle Program captured the nation’s attention and is equally as captivating in the retelling, with storytelling fueled by those who lived it firsthand and newly revealed footage from the NASA archive,” said Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent, CNN Originals, and creative development for CNN Worldwide, in a statement. “Our viewers have long been fascinated by stories of space exploration and this series is...

Offset and Quavo reunited for a surprise performance to honor their late groupmate, Takeoff, who was fatally shot on Nov. 1 in Houston, Texas, with a touching tribute during this year’s BET Awards.
The duo performed together for the first time since they disbanded their hip-hop trio, Migos, after releasing their fourth and final studio album Culture III in 2021. When the awards show returned from a commercial break, a curtain raised on a darkened stage with two shadowed figures emerging: Quavo and Offset, standing before an image of the Space Shuttle. As a recording of Takeoff’s verse on the song “Hotel Lobby” began, the space shuttle took off and the pair launched into the group’s biggest hit, “Bad & Boujee.”

“The Maze Runner’s” Kaya Scodelario, “John Wick’s” Lance Reddick and “Bohemian Rhapsody’s” Ben Hardy are set to lead the cast of sci-fi thriller “Apteros.”
Independent Entertainment have launched international sales on the pic, which is written and directed by Edward Anderson (“Shuttle”). Producer Laura Rister (“Mr Malcolm’s List”) will handle North American rights with Independent Entertainment.
“Apteros” sees a crew of seven astronauts, including science officer Tressie (Scodelario), captain Mitchell (Reddick), systems engineer Wade (Hardy) and their onboard AI, en-route to Mars after bacterial life is discovered on the red planet in the not-too-distant future.
Soon however, a number of unusual events unfold aboard the spacecraft, which is named Apteros, and the crew find themselves divided in a tense psychological battle as they struggle to work out what is happening and realize nothing is as it seems.

Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Kinetic Content has landed the rights to Grady Hendrix’s forthcoming sci-fi comedic novella BadAsstronauts to develop as a half-hour television series, with Aperture Entertainment.
Described as The Right Stuff meets King of the Hill, BadAsstronauts is about ordinary Americans trying to accomplish an extraordinary, and very stupid, and also extremely dangerous task: launching a manned backyard rocket into space to rescue their abandoned friend.
Hendrix and Aperture Entertainment Founder Adam Goldworm will executive produce the series adaptation with Kinetic Content CEO Chris Coelen and President and Partner Melissa Myers.
The book’s official logline reads in part: “Melville, South Carolina was out of money, it was out of jobs, it was out of hope, and today it was out of astronauts. There were only two to begin with, and now one is stuck on the abandoned International Space Station after his mission went south.

The Fists In My Pocket and The Traitor director will attend the festival to pick up his prize. He will host a masterclass during the event, while a retrospective of his films will be screened, as well as his new documentary. “Marco Bellocchio exercises impressive liberty and modernity to combine registers of images and genres, moving between fiction and documentary, between the intimate and the collective. We are extremely happy and delighted to pay tribute to an indisputable master of contemporary filmmaking, as well as to a body of work which, from the very first films, has demonstrated dazzling modernity, and is brooding, subversive and audacious, formidably eclectic,” said Emilie Bujès, Artistic Director of Visions du Réel.

Michael Sugar’s management and multimedia platform Sugar23 has added Douglas Rushkoff as “Futurist in Residence,” the company announced Tuesday.
In his new role, Rushkoff will serve as “sounding board and professor” for the firm, Sugar23 said in a statement. Rushkoff will help clients “who are looking to understand the greater contexts around what they are doing, to develop greater congruence between purpose and practice, or to develop a more rigorous approach to their work. Additionally, he will assist clients in understanding the changing shape of narrativity in the increasingly digital society, as well as helping them brainstorm on projects with specific story elements involving new or as-yet-uninvented technologies, future societies, or speculative scenarios.”
“We are thrilled to bring Doug into the Sugar 23 community (to) assist us and our clients to think through our approach to media and technology — both as story elements in their work and platforms through which they deliver it.

A Samoan security guard and a young campus bus driver forge an unlikely bond in this heartwarming story with a deep understanding of place
Packed with a host of off-kilter characters and traversing some over-familiar indie terrain, this slacker comedy co-directed by John Carlucci and Brandon Laganke could easily have seemed grating. Nevertheless, believable performances, along with a deep understanding of place, lend Drunk Bus a cheeriness that is entertaining and heartwarming.
Just like the creaky campus bus that he has driven around the same route every night for the past four years, recent graduate Michael (Charlie Tahan) is stuck in a depressing loop. His Catholic girlfriend Amy (Sarah Mezzanotte) has left him for New York, while the still-virgin Michael remains in Kent, Ohio. His daily dealings with drunk students and aggressive, burrito-throwing frat boys bear the same approach: meek numbness and exasperated acceptance. His directionless apathy changes when, after a minor scuffle,...

Both filmmakers, who both live with an intellectual disability and have participated in Bus Stop Films’ Accessible Film Studies Program, will work with the Aftrs production team over the coming year.

András Ötvös leads the cast of the filmmaker’s second feature film, a Filmfabriq and Little Bus production set to be sold by Nfi World Sales. Having kicked off on 29 December, filming on Christmas Flame (Nagykarácsony) by Daniel Tiszeker is progressing in Budapest where it is set to wrap mid-March. After making quite an impression with his debut feature #Sohavegetnemeros, a comedy produced independently which proved to be something of a "sleeper" in 2016 and ultimately walked away with the 2017 Audience Prize at the Hungarian Film Awards, the filmmaker has this time assembled a cast led by András Ötvös and Emöke Zsigmond (who was also in on the act for Tiszeker’s #Sohavegetnemeros).Stealing similar focus in the cast are Péter Scherer (Kincsem – Bet on Revenge), Lia Pokorny (Well), Tamás...

In Like a Lion: Winkler Traces Boxer on the Struggle Bus in Familiar Melodrama
If you’re going to San Francisco, there might not be anymore gentle people there, or so seems to be one of many familiar sentiments in Jungleland, the third feature from Max Winkler (son of Henry). An impressive cast of established and upcoming actors should generate an immediate interest in this story of two wayward, down and out brothers forced into indentured servitude on a cross-country trek to what will either be their fortune and glory or their doom. However, a rather routine, paint-by-numbers script robs this treatment of any originality, often revealing significant plot holes in an exercise which also fails to properly convey a sense of time or place.…...

Tom Cruise and director Doug Liman’s may head into space in for their film in October 2021, images from the Space Shuttle Almanac reveal.
On Monday the Twitter for the Space Shuttle Almanac shared a photo of spacecrafts and countries set to launch from in the next three years. While the chart may seem like an assuming collage of names, flags and spacecrafts at first, upon a closer look the chart reveals some names near and dear to Hollywood.
Under the October 2021 part of the chart reads “SpaceX Crew Dragon,” with an image of a small space vehicle beside it. Next to the illustration are a list of three names: SpaceX Pilot Lopez Alegria, Tourist 1 Tom Cruise and Tourist 2 Doug Liman. The tourist flight also shows a vacant spot for a third visitor.
While it’s unsure whether the October 2021 trip is just a preliminary one for Cruise and Liman...

The word on the street might be #RIPFortnite, but Epic’s world-dominating Battle Royale shooter might have a few more tricks up its sleeve. The much anticipated (and annoying delayed) Season 3 is set to begin in June, but dataminers have found animations that seem to hint that we might be going beneath those azure island waves fairly soon.
Fortnite leakers @SkinTrackerCom were all over the recent patch, extracting the animation data (labelled “Underwater Swimming”) and showing us what this might look like.

Going underwater makes sense for Fortnite. We’ve already been up in the air in biplanes and most recently helicopters, but have only ever been able to swim along the surface of the water.

For those of you that don’t know, Destroy The Brain used to be a podcast. I started it back in June of 2007. Last year, we converted the website from podcast only to a full fledged website and our focus has been on news and reviews in written format while the podcast faded away. While we will be coming back later this year in a new format in podcast form, our podcast comrades – Outside the Cinema – are presenting their first theatrical event with a locally produced film. If you are near Danvers, Ma, go check it out. Read beyond the break for the full press release.

Entertainment One will release the chilly (and hopefully chilling) 2009 thriller Frozen Kiss on DVD on July 12 for a list price of $24.98.
Cameron Goodman feels the chill in Frozen Kiss.
Jamie Martz (Jarhead) and Cameron Goodman (Shuttle) star as Ryan and Shelley, young lovers returning home from a party one wintry night. Engulfed by a raging blizzard, they become stranded when their car breaks down on an unfamiliar road. With the authorities unable to locate them, the pair must fight for survival against both the icy elements and the mysterious figures who appear to be trailing them.
Directed by Harry Bromley Davenport and co-starring Mimi Rogers (Abandoned) and David Starzyk (TV’s Hot in Cleveland), Frozen Kiss is premiering in the U.S. on DVD and is reportedly “based on true events that made national headlines.”
This one looks like it could play as a companion feature to Adam Green’s ski lift chiller Frozen.

A decent amount of talent has signed on for Chris Fisher's (S. Darko) adaptation of Thomas Berger's 1992 novel Meeting Evil, and we've got the info on who it is!
Just before the New Year's break, The Wrap reported that Luke Wilson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Leslie Bibb have all joined the project, which explores one man's darker side. In addition, Bloody Disgusting has confirmed that Shuttle's Peyton List has also joined the cast.
Shooting is set to begin filming this weekend. More soon.
Plot Outline
When John (Wilson) answers a knock at his front door, he thinks nothing of giving the man outside, Richie (Jackson), a hand starting his car. John's charitable impulses lead him to offer to guide Richie to a nearby petrol station, but he has a bad feeling about this stranger. What starts as a simple trip turns into an extraordinary journey into darkness.

No, that is not the face of Roland Deschain you see above, and, no, J.J Abrams has not finally decided to put his ‘Dark Tower’ rights to good use. According to Variety, Josh Hartnett will, however, be starring in a film called ‘Gunslinger,’ billed as a Western in a post-apocalyptic world. Well, that sure sounds like the ‘Gunslinger’ we’ve all been waiting for. It’s not.
Hartnett will play a man in the near future, a snowy wasteland of a world, who, along with his brother, sets out to seek revenge against the gang who killed their parents. Chris Nahon (’Kiss of the Dragon’ and ‘Blood: The Last Vampire’) will be directing with Mark Williams (’Running Scared’) and Albert Martinez Martin (’Shuttle’) producing.
Here is what Williams had to say on the project:

Fango recently spoke to independent filmmaker/makeup FX artist Rob Fitz, who gave us the scoop that he has signed a distribution deal for his years-in-the-making action/horror opus God Of Vampires. Written and directed by Fitz, the movie follows a hitman (Dharma Lim) who takes an assignment that leads him to confront vicious Asian bloodsuckers.
“I’m getting a limited theatrical release through a company called Maxim Media,” Fitz tells Fango. “It’s going to play screens in Arizona and possibly Boston; Maxim owns the worldwide rights to God Of Vampires, and it will then go to DVD, video-on-demand and foreign markets. When I talked to my entertainment attorney, he said it was one of the cleanest contracts he had ever seen for an independent film. I was very cautious in finding distribution for this movie; that’s why it took me so long. I didn’t want to sell it to just anybody,...

Arriving on DVD April 7 from Magnet Releasing is Edward Anderson's highly anticipated thriller Shuttle, which Tex reviewed from the SXSW Film Festival last March. Now it's coming to your home for your enjoyment. Check out some exclusive new hi-res images below. When Jules (Cameron Goodman) and Mel (Peyton List) return late at night from a ladies-only vacation, they find themselves at the airport on a rainy night that seems darker than usual. Wanting to get home but with limited options, they board an airport shuttle with a driver (Tony Curran), hoping for a safe and short ride. This is going to be one of the best DVD releases of the month.

Writer of 2007s "Flawless," Edward Anderson sits in the director's chair for the first time in horror film "Shuttle," a 2008 SXSW movie entry, which is now pushing forward with an April 7, 2009 DVD release date. Light on scares or gore "Shuttle," utilizes a character reveal at midpoint to add a twist where one is usually found in the ending and an intensity chills throughout. Not bowing to conventional story development Anderson finds his stride in this 106 minute tightly written thriller.
Beginning with good friends Mel (Peyton List) and Jules (Cameron Goodman) returning from a southern holiday these two comely girls quickly flirt, then entice Seth (James Snyder) and Matt (Dave Power) to join them in a cheap airport shuttle ride. Pretty boy and wanton ladies man, Seth engrosses himself with bubbly, blonde Jules while laidback, complainer Matt warms to Mel, a recent dumpee from a previous cheating fiancé. Add in one neurotic,...

The indie horror-thriller Shuttle closes with a nasty little twist that both makes sense of everything that came before it, and reveals the film as a risible piece of real-world exploitation. But since that twist needs to stay a mystery, that leaves the harrowing journey to get there, which preys upon the obscure (and perhaps nonexistent) fear of sketchy airport shuttles and stretches the thinnest of abduction premises to the limit. The story of weary travelers taken on the ride of their lives should make for a tight, tension-filled 90 minutes max, but writer-director Edward Anderson continually lets it fall ...

One of the best horror movies this year is essentially heading straight to DVD this April. "Shuttle," from first time director (and second time writer) Edward Anderson, is an absolutely fantastic horror thriller made on a shoe-string budget. It's on a very limited theatrical release right now, before it's bow to DVD on April 7. Click here for our review. We were fortunate to be able to speak with him about his film, which is probably the best horror movie debut since "Cabin Fever." The fact that it isn't getting as wide a release is something of a crime -- and probably indicative of the remake craze stifling new, original films and preventing them from hitting cineplexes. ESplatter: How did you come up with the idea for "Shuttle"? Without giving too much away, there were certain current events that caught my attention. Which combined with a paranoid/inspired moment on a shuttle van at Lax.

There are some bumps in the road on the trip Shuttle takes, but as on any good vacation, the destination is worth the problems getting there. Actually, the Mexican jaunt enjoyed by the film’s two young heroines is over as the movie begins, and what should be their simple trip home becomes an uneven but ultimately gripping nightmare.
In Shuttle (being given an unfortunately token theatrical release in a handful of cities this month by Truly Indie ahead of its April DVDebut via Magnolia Pictures), the trouble has already started for longtime best friends Mel (Peyton List) and Jules (Cameron Goodman) once their plane has touched down; Mel is suffering air sickness, and they’re held up in the terminal when one of their bags goes missing. They wind up being among the last people left there on the rainy night, along with Seth (James Snyder), a constant on-the-maker...

• New York City’s IFC Center (323 6th Avenue) is hosting a series of screenings of the top award-winners from this year’s Slamdance Film Festival. Included among the four features is Glenn McQuaid’s highly anticipated I Sell The Dead, which took the fest’s prize for Best Cinematography.
The film stars Lost’s Dominic Monaghan and NYC horror auteur Larry Fessenden (pictured; the latter won a Special Jury Mention for Best Performance and executive-produced Dead under his Scareflix banner) as 18th-century graverobbers Arthur Blake and Willie Grimes, whom the law has caught up with. As he faces execution, Blake confesses to Father Duffy (Ron Perlman) about his 15 years of often grisly adventures in the “resurrection” trade. I Sell The Dead will screen Monday, March 30 at 8 p.m.; each film in the series will have select filmmakers and Slamdance programmers on hand for a post-show Q&A. See the trailer...

Shuttle , the Edward Anderson thriller that traveled around various festivals last year, found a home at Magnolia Releasing . The distributor plans to issue the film under its Magnet banner and roll it through a limited theatrical run on March 6th before whisking it off to its final destination on DVD April 7th. Peyton List and Cameron Goodman star as two young women who resort to hopping aboard a shuttle from the airport to avoid a downpour. What's meant to be a short ride turns into a nightmare as the driver of the vehicle (Tony Curran, Midnight Meat Train ) has other plans for his passengers. I’ll be honest, we’ve not heard a whole helluva lot about Edward Anderson’s Shuttle round these parts, save for the occasional news story here and there we’ve done on it, but apparently it’s gotten some good reviews via its festival screenings over the last year or so.
Magnet Releasing has its hands on it now and plans to release it theatrically on March 6, 2009, at least for a while, before it comes to DVD April 7th. They just dropped the box art for said DVD, which you can see on your right.

Magnolia Pictures has announced that it will release Shuttle to DVD April 7 under its Magnet banner. The company also released artwork for Olly Blackburn’s Donkey Punch, coming in rated and five-minutes-longer unrated editions the same day.
Writer/director Edward Anderson’s Shuttle premiered at last year’s South by Southwest film festival. Peyton List and Cameron Goodman star in Shuttle as two friends who get stranded at an airport late one night after returning home from vacation. They and three others are picked up by a shuttle bus, and soon its mysterious driver (Tony Curran from Underworld: Evolution) is taking them on a frightening ride. Prior to the disc release, Magnet/Magnolia will open Shuttle in limited theatrical bookings March 6.
In Donkey Punch, three girls on vacation in Majorca take a boat trip with four guys on the yacht the latter are crewing, and the subsequent carnal activities lead to serious violence.

More IMDb casting this morning as they report that Beatrice Miller, Ulrich Thomsen (The Substitute), Tom Kemp (Shuttle) and Jamie Harold (The Last Winter). Pablo Schreiber, Dallas Roberts (The Factory), Tom Riis Farrell, among many others, have joined Josh Lucas, Brian Cox and Lena Headey in Michael Cuesta's Tell-tale. The film is now in post-production after lensing last April in Rhode Island. Inspired by the classic Edgar Allan Poe story "The Tell-Tale Heart," the contemporized adaptation sees Lucas starring as a single father whose recently transplanted heart leads him on a frantic search to find the donor's killer before a similar fate befalls him.

Nothing is more annoying than when a company doesn't promote their film, such is the case with Shuttle, which premiered silently at the SXSW Film Festival this past March.
