The scene in which Mary Ann is exhausted from running with The Skipper. Is a reference to The Wizard of Oz, where Dorothy is exhausted after running through the poppy fields. And like Dorothy, Mary Ann sits down, and like how The Scarecrow tells Dorothy not to fall asleep, The Skipper tells Mary Ann not to sit down. And Mary Ann quotes the guard at the front gate's line: "Plain as the nose on my face." By saying: "Plain as your book over there."
