- Carolyn Muir: [upon seeing Gull Cottage] Oh, Martha... This is even more charming than I imagined. Gull Cottage.
- Martha Grant: [not impressed] Now that we know where the gulls live, where do we stay?
- Carolyn Muir: Oh, Mr. Peevey, you don't believe in ghosts, do you?
- Mr. Peevy: Might. Then again, might not.
- Carolyn Muir: Well, if there's anything I hate, it's a cowardly ghost.
- Capt. Daniel Gregg: [disembodied voice] Light the candle.
- Claymore Gregg: [of Gull Cottage] Well, I must admit it's, uh, musty and gloomy.
- Carolyn Muir: Oh, we'll simply open the windows and air it out.
- Claymore Gregg: No. Don't do that.
- Martha Grant: Why not?
- Claymore Gregg: Winds blow here all the time.
- Carolyn Muir: That's the way to get rid of the mustiness.
- Claymore Gregg: Over a hundred miles an hour.
- Martha Grant: That's the way to get rid of the house.
- Jonathan Muir: [standing before the portrait of Captain Gregg] I don't think he likes us.
- Carolyn Muir: He's not alive anymore, darling. He died before any of us were born.
- Jonathan Muir: I know. He told me.
- Capt. Daniel Gregg: [as Carolyn sleeps] I never once allowed a woman aboard my ship, but if I'd known you a hundred years ago, I would have carried you off to sea and shown you how beautiful the world can be. I'd have met my match in you. Lord knows I... waited for you, and hunted for you. How was I to know you hadn't even been born yet?
- Capt. Daniel Gregg: I've been easy on you. That is because you said one or two intelligent things since you've been here. Damned unusual thing for one of your sex.
- Carolyn Muir: I take it you don't like women.
- Capt. Daniel Gregg: Well, it's impossible to LIKE women. Love 'em, yes. Like 'em, no.
- Carolyn Muir: You must have been a very aggravating man.
- Capt. Daniel Gregg: Perhaps to women. I was never tied to an apron string nor put by the fireplace like a pet poodle - though, of course, many tried.
- Carolyn Muir: I suppose you had a girl in every port.
- Capt. Daniel Gregg: Ten, twenty, half a hundred if I wanted.
- Carolyn Muir: Well, what happened? Were you murdered by a jealous husband?
- Capt. Daniel Gregg: No. I kicked the blasted gas heater on with my blasted foot.
- Claymore Gregg: [after introducing himself] Here's your check back.
- Martha Grant: What a wonderful house-warming gift.
- Martha Grant: [to Carolyn] Take it.
- Candice Muir: [sighs] Mom, I hate to leave this house.
- Carolyn Muir: There're other houses.
- Candice Muir: I hate to leave the beach.
- Carolyn Muir: There're other beaches.
- Jonathan Muir: I hate to leave Capt. Gregg.
- Carolyn Muir: There're other ghosts.
- Carolyn Muir: [catching herself] Jonathan, stop it.
- Candice Muir: [under his breath] Blast.
- Jonathan Muir: I want to build a sandcastle.
- Martha Grant: [still unimpressed with Gull Cottage] Make it three bedrooms and we'll move in.
