Two stars before they were famous....and before they lost their appeal.

Michael Richards and Dana Carvey are two odd cases. Each were relatively obscure when they made "Slickers" and, in hindsight, they both should have been thrilled this show never went beyond the pilot stage. Carvey went on to great success with "Saturday Night Live" and Richards with "Seinfeld". Today, unfortunately, each has (for many reasons) returned to relative obscurity.

Mike (Richards) is a big city cop who is transferred to a small town (huh?). There he works with the easygoing Sheriff, Elliot (Carvey). Hilarity ensues....or at least it was supposed to.

Michael Richards was given an unenviable role to play in this one. He was utterly ridiculous and came off as a caricature due to the writing. His sort of character would have worked better of "Fridays" (where Richards got his start) or "SNL"...but in a series he just seemed completely out of place. Carvey, on the other hand, was given a more rewarding job, as his character wasn't so weird and obnoxious. But regardless, the show was not a stellar comedy and I could see why it was never picked up as a series. Broad writing, difficult to like characters and an invasive laugh track really were serious problems with "Slickers".
