This is my second look at this program and I discovered, unlike my first look, not every case winds up with a happy ending. Both of these cases were unsolved after the 48 hours were up.
The first one is almost mind-boggling.as Mimai Detective Ervins Ford and Sgt. Eunice Cooper discover. It looks like an easy apprehension but the arrogant murderer apparently found a way to beat this system. On parole and wearing a GPS device that monitors his moves, he uses it as his perfect alibi after a 20-year-old father-to-be is shot and killed outside his house. The killer simply jumped out of his car, fired an AK-47 at the guy a couple of times and then got back in his car and drove off. Witnesses, evidence and whatever all point to a man called "Jhu" as the killer.(real last name: Moore).
There really isn't much doubt but this guy pulls a fast one of the cops, somehow disabling the GPS system. A few days later, he escapes and no one knows where he went. (I'd like to know if they ever found him.)
In Phoenix, Arizona, Det. Steve Orona and his peers are called to an apartment complex where they discover a grisly scene: a decomposing woman in the bathroom. She had been dead about a week. Also in the apartment are a lot of kids' toys. Forensics discovers this woman had a face put on fire after her death so whoever did this had a lot of hate in their heart. "A person with this much anger and violence needs to be taken off the street," says a somber Orona. What's worse is the dead woman was seven months pregnant, so there are two deaths. It looks like the mother was strangled.
The first thing the cops need to do is get a positive ID on the woman. Without that, they have almost nothing to go with. They get it, and then go after the husband, which is the right person. To make a long story short, the man had changed his name and was now down in Mexico somewhere. The police go down there but can't find him. Word is out on the streets.
"It's not a cold case," says the detective. "We have a suspect - Samuel Ramirez Moreno - and we won't forget about him."
