Shattered Angels

Warning: Spoilers
I watched this series on Funimation's YouTube channel knowing nothing about it beforehand; as it opened it seemed very much like a fairly tale as school girl Kū dreams of her prince. Soon a boy transfers to her school and she is shocked that he looks just like the prince she dreamt of, his behaviour is not as expected though as the first time they meet he tears open her shirt; understandably he is not too pleased and runs off thinking he is a pervert! She soon learns that the boy, called Kyoshiro, is somehow involved with creatures called 'absolute angels'; when these beings fight they can somehow summon giant weapons. Kyoshiro is obsessed with carrying on the work of his brother who he believes died saving the world from a calamity ten years previously; we later learn that wasn't quite what happened. As the story progresses there are plenty of fights and it is sometimes in doubt just how good some characters really are.

This series was fairly average; the main characters were good enough although I'm surprised at how often the girls had to strip off and wash each other given that the story felt like it was aimed as children. I thought the main bad guy was excessively hammy to the point that I suspect it must have been deliberate. The characters were of a fairly generic anime design; not original but not bad either. While it didn't work for me I'm sure it will have its fans and as it is only twelve episodes long it isn't a huge waste of time if you watch and don't like it too much.

Warning: Spoilers
Shattered Angels is nowhere near as good as another comment would lead you to believe. Had it been the only project by Kaishaku, then it would warrant a better review. However whilst I can't be sure about what it derives in it's totality, I can say with absolute surety that it is heavily derivative of Steel Angel Kurumi and Kannazuki No Miko, the latter being to a far higher degree. About 9 out of 10 character designs are taken directly from KnM. Kaon=Chikane, Himiko+Ku+Himeko, The male Ayanokoji's= Souma, Tsubasa, and Girochi, the list goes on and on. The plot devices, such as the shopping scene, the endless numerous bathing scenes, the list goes on, were taken from Kannazuki. On top of that, we get to deal with the "dear my prince" segments. Essentially, take everything that was good about Kannazuki No Miko (my favorite series), push it to the side or bastardize it, make the side stories based on the aforementioned series more interesting than the main plot. Throw that all together and you get a great premise lost to sheer uncreativeness. On the other hand, the side stories were somewhat compelling and quite frankly I had more interest in the side stories than the main story. No, it wasn't because the main story was het and Himeko and Chikane made a comeback on the side, it was because those were relatively well done. I would recommend it, but conditionally, watch Kannazuki No Miko first.

Not bad at all

I know that many Kannazuki no Miko fans actually watched this one for our two fav characters reborn once again... Yet this spin off was actually interesting in and of itself and had a characteristically heart breaking ending moment just like KnM. I do not regret watching, though, yeah I ll selfishly add that Kaon and Himiko needed a little bit more on screen time, but alas, maybe in the next reincarnation.

I am also happy that unlike mangas, anime kept thins respectful.
