The titles of the three chapters in the movie "Le départ", "L'absence", "Le retour" are the same as in the movie "Les parapluies de Cherbourg"
The film's journey from pre-production to world premiere was relatively quick. Director Christophe Honoré got the green light from producer Paulo Branco in October 2006, the cast did their first reading in November, and the songs were recorded in December to enable the actors to lip-sync to them once filming got underway. Shooting began the following month, in January 2007, and was completed in time for the final cut to be considered by the Cannes selection panel for that year's festival, where it subsequently premiered in May 2007.
Many dialogs were inspired by Adam Thirlwell's first novel "Politics", which Clotilde Hesme's character reads during the bed scene.
Gaël Morel: early in the film, Gaël Morel, whom is thanked in the credits, pushes through to the front of the line, while Julie is queuing for the movie.
