Sex & Nudity

  • A young boy's buttocks are seen briefly while he is being spanked by his father about age of seven or eight.
  • You see naked women in a bathhouse for a few seconds. Nothing sensitive is shown; just their backs with glimpe of their buttocks. The scene is cut after implying that there are women. For about a second or two.
  • There is a shot of a nude woman who is holding a blanket over part of her body. You can see the side of her buttock and her hair is covering her breasts.
  • A man is fantasizing about beautiful slave women. In his imagination, we see scantily clad women. One woman is topless, but she is laying stomach down on a couch and the side of her breast is partially visible. The scene is brief.
  • In a village-life scene, men are bathing outside. We see a man completely naked from the back; no genitals shown. We are also briefly shown the women inside a bathhouse, but their breasts are covered by their hair and no genitals are shown.
  • S2E2 A nude woman is scene in bed with a blanket covering her breasts and genitalia, but some cleavage, side breasts are visible.

Violence & Gore

  • Gory battle sequences. Stabbing, slicing and decapitations with lots of blood. Aftermath of village raid shows hanged villagers and pillaging.
  • EXTREMELY violent, with lots of blood and gore in battle sequences.
  • Extremely violent. Some scenes include chopping off fingers. Frequent battle and war scenes. Cutting off of head and eyes are also present.
  • There is constant violence and gore (some of it very disturbing) including: heads being chopped off, people being sliced in half etc. And there also is a scene where askeladd pokes a man's eyes out with his fingers, overall still a great historical show. Recommend for ages 17+
  • Really violent, a person gets his head decapitated, a guys gets chopped in two, people burning alive and many disturbing scenes along way
  • One episode features violence toward horses, this can be rather disheartening for horse/animal lovers. However, the moment is meant to be darkly humorous unlike the more frequent and intense battle sequences that are played quite seriously.
  • The series has a lot of bloody fighting sequences with light gore (almost to a TV-14 level) but is not ultraviolent or unnecessarily graphic. However, the violence is brutal and realistic, and is not presented in a stylized or glamorous way.
  • The openings show snippets of the violent sequences, with blood detail
  • Season 2 is tamer than Season 1, but more emotionally heavy.
  • The fact that the series is based on history and real life events makes the violence all the more intense.
  • Gore is much less frequent in season 2, but when it does happen it is brutal. That being said, it is also slightly censored on the Netflix version as of August 9 2023.
  • A man's eye is pierced by a coin and he is impaled through the neck afterwards. None of it is off screen.

Profanity

  • The subtitles contain occasional moments of swearing. The original source material contained stronger language.
  • The Sentai Dub contains stronger language than the Sub or Netflix Dub.
  • Swearing isnt very frequent but there Is still some swear words
  • Multiple uses of "damn," "hell," "bastard," "ass," "shit," one usage of "bitch" and rare uses of "fuck" respectively.
  • Sub has little to no language

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The vikings drink beer in their banquets.
  • A viking takes Magic Mushrooms to go into a berserk like state to crush his opponents

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Same as Violence & Gore category. The entire show consists of gore-filled battles between vikings.
  • The vikings in the show are true to their real world origins. They're a culture of warriors who are guided by their collective pride and their desire to die in battle in order to reach Valhalla. As a result, they're shown to kill many innocent villagers who get in their way.
  • Very Violent and dark tone throughout. Contains disturbing Violence. Others elements like selling of people and keeping them as slaves are also present.
  • The series is not very disturbing, but it is extremely gritty, dark, emotional, and intense, taking place in a bleak and unstable medieval world. Not for those who are uncomfortable to violence or heavy themes.
  • Season 2 emphasizes themes of slavery, trauma, guilt, and the human condition more than the action-filled first season

Spoilers

Sex & Nudity

  • A man threatens to rape a female slave as a form of retribution and then gropes her. However, he is stopped rather quickly and runs away.

Violence & Gore

  • An unstable man bites out a mans throat and tons of blood splatter everywhere. Unexpected and graphic.
  • Zombies are brutally slaughtered by beheading and splitting in half. It's not super graphic however and it is likely a dream.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Some main and supporting characters are killed, sometimes out of nowhere.
  • A man's village is razed, his family is slaughtered, and he is sold into slavery. He tries to escape but is brutally whipped. Very upsetting and traumatic.
  • Thorfinn's nightmare sequence in the episode "Awakening" of the people he killed is surprisingly very disturbing compared to the rest of the show due to it coming out of nowhere and featuring visceral and intense imagery. Additionally, Thorfinn's cries of despair are extremely gut-wrenching.
  • A major character is cruelly beaten by their master and suffers massive injuries to their head, eventually dying. Very emotional and distressing.
  • A man brutally beats his pregnant concubine with a club. This includes hitting her abdomen, which is later implied to have killed the baby. He is stopped, but the woman dies soon after nonetheless.
