When you hear that D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are behind a series, you sit up and take notice. The recent Netflix drama 3 Body Problem had all the suspense and drama we've come to expect from the pair, as a team of scientists and a detective investigate the strange deaths of scientists around the world.
Based on the novel The Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin, the show scored 80% on Rotten Tomatoes and topped Netflix's global top 10 for 3 weeks. But with only 8 episodes, this uber-bingeable show has already come to an end for many fans.
The good news, a new K-drama landing on April 26th is the perfect show to stream if you loved 3 Body Problem and can't believe it hasn't been renewed for Season 2.
What would you do if there were only 200 days left until the apocalypse?
That is the question the citizens of Korea face in this heart-pounding show.

The high school thriller drama Night Has Come is the latest to join the list of extreme school dramas like Extracurricular and All of Us Are Dead. In the first week of its release, we got four 30-minute episodes all at once. The show follows a group of high school students who go on a school retreat and find themselves in a realistic game of “mafia” in the absence of adult supervision. With no escape, the students have no option but to play the game or be eliminated. By the end of the fourth episode, there are a handful of survivors left in comparison to the beginning of the show. It’s not quite certain who is making them play this game, but to add to the mess, there also seem to be some supernatural elements at play.

“Bogota: City of the Lost,” one of the most expensive Korean films ever made, heads the sales slate presented at Busan by Megabox Plus M, part of Korea’s J Contentree listed company.
Crime noir, “Bogota” took 21 months to produce and saw its principal photography start in January 2020 but soon become a victim of Covid. Song Joong Ki (“Space Sweepers”) stars as a young man moving to Colombia with his family for a better life, but he ends up living from hand to mouth. He later goes against all odds to dominate Bogota’s black market. The picture also stars Lee Hee-jun (“The Drug King”) and was directed by Kim Seong-je (“The Unfair”).
It is also pitching “Don’t Buy The Seller,” a thriller directed by Kim Hee-gon (“Fengshui”) that might make one rethink the purchase of second-hand items via online apps. Shin Hae-sun plays the protagonist who reports the...

The Busan International Film Festival has unveiled a selection of nine series for its On Screen section, a program launched last year that highlights innovative series created by TV producers and streaming platforms.
This year’s selection, which has grown from three titles to nine, will include original series from Disney+, Netflix and Tving, the streaming service run by Korean entertainment giant Cj Enm — all of which will screen as either world premieres or Asia premieres.
Netflix’s Somebody (2022) is the first drama series from veteran Korean filmmaker Jung Ji-woo. A mystery thriller, it follows four women and a man whose lives become entangled through a social media app. Glitch, also a Netflix original comedy-thriller, is the latest collaboration between Korean director Roh Deok, who is known for such works as Very Ordinary Couple (2013), and screenwriter Gin Han-sai, famous for the acclaimed series...

“Hellbound,” the TV series debut of “Train to Busan” director Yeon Sang-ho, is one of three shows to be showcased in the new On Screen section of the Busan International Film Festival. The festival also announced that its Asian Contents & Film Market will operate in similar fashion to last year in a hybrid format.
The On Screen section is intended to “showcase highly anticipated drama series on Ott platforms as either world premieres or Asia premieres,” the festival said. This “precisely reflects the current state of the market, which is expanding multi-directionally, while embracing the extended flow and value of cinema.”
The two other new shows are “My Name,” from Kim Jin-min (Netflix’s “Extracurricular”), and youth drama “Forbidden,” which was co-directed by Thailand’s Anucha Boonyawatana and Korean-American, Josh Kim.
“Hellbound” and “My Name” are both Korean dramas set to play out on Netflix, while “Forbidden” is an HBO Asia original series.

Shortlists to be announced on February 9.
The Academy on Thursday (January 28) published a list of 93 films eligible for international feature film Oscar category.
Algeria’s Heliopolis, about the brutal suppression by French colonial authorities of an uprising in 1945, is omitted from the list. Screen understands the national selection committee withdrew the submission.
There were also a record number of documentary submissions – 238 compared to the previous high of 170 – in light of amended eligibility rules this season due to the pandemic, and a reduced field of 27 animation contenders.
The shortlists will be announced on February 9. The 93rd annual Academy Awards are scheduled...

Ivan-Goran Vitez made his Croatian film “Extracurricular” about an enraged, armed father taking his daughter’s class hostage as a warning to society that there are desperate, lost people among us.
“When I started to think about this film, I wanted to make it some kind of a warning to people not to act this way because, in the film, we have the enraged father who bursts into the school of his 9-year-old daughter, because it’s her birthday and he doesn’t have the right to be with her on her birthday,” Vitez told TheWrap’s Steve Pond.
“He’s a recently divorced man, he’s an unemployed father who lost his rights to be heard in the society and even in his family, and I wanted to warn the society about these people that exist here around us,” he continued. “And we have to be careful, no, you...

The Academy on Friday unveiled to its voters a record 93 films will compete in the Best International Feature Film category — which will no doubt leading to a busy four weeks of viewing before first-round voting begins on Feb. 1.
Helped by Covid-inspired rules that relaxed the usual entry requirements, the films topped the record of 92 entries set in 2017, as TheWrap suggested they likely would in December. The films include a record 34 female directors, seven more than the previous high of 27 set last year.
This is not the official list of qualifying films, which is expected to be released by the Academy later in January. But these 93 films are all in the members-only online screening room devoted to the category, and each of them has been put on a “required viewing” list for one-fourth of the voters. It is unlikely that any of the films will be disqualified at this point, although...

Exclusive: Keenan Tracey (Bates Motel), Daniel Doheny (Alex Strangelove), Natalie Malaika (Fractured), newcomer Morgan Holmstrom and Kristy Dinsmore (Vikings) are set as series regulars in Syfy’s Day of the Dead, based on George A. Romero’s classic zombie film, from Abbott Street Films and Cartel Entertainment (Creepshow). Additionally, horror filmmaker Steven Kostanski is set to direct the first four episodes and executive produce. Production is currently underway on the 10-episode series in Vancouver.
Written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who also will showrun, Day of the Dead is the intense story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. This ode to Romero’s famous flesh-eaters reminds us that sometimes all it takes to bring people together is a horde of hungry zombies trying to rip them apart.
