Mistaken Identity
GManfred20 June 2017
Monogram serial-style film short (40 min) about a woman traversing the Malay jungle to get to her father's plantation. Due to odd circumstances she arrives at a village that has just been attacked in the night by a tiger. The tiger abducted a child and left a bloody blanket in its wake. The woman picks it up and brings it to the village and is immediately suspected by the superstitious locals of being the human reincarnation of the killer tiger - a Were Tiger, along the lines of a werewolf. Serial-type peril and excitement ensue before the woman is rescued by a passing hero.

It was filmed entirely indoors with stock footage of tigers in the jungle, and likely was passable entertainment for youthful moviegoers of long ago. It is unremarkable but holds the interest throughout, and is mercifully short. Presumably it is on an 'endangered films' list since there are no other reviewers and was shown at the Mostly Lost Weekend at the Library of Congress, 6/16/17.

P.S. Director Paul Hurst was the Union soldier on the stairs shot by Scarlet O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind".
