Oswald The Lucky Rabbit plays in the big big football game in this gag-packed late silent cartoon.
If you look at the credits, you may be surprised to see neither Walt Disney nor Walter Lantz credited here. Instead, you get the remnants of Disney's old crew working directly for Universal Pictures. If you accept the usual story of how Lantz came to own Oswald -- that Charles Mintz cheated Disney out of the character, then got hornswoggled by the Laemmles, who proceeded to lose him in a poker game to Lantz -- then it makes sense. Here's the third act.
In fact, the Laemmles probably figured they didn't want to run their own cartoon division. For the moment, though, they had at least one good cartoon under their belt in this one.
