Year One is based on a screenplay co-written by writing partners Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg along with Harold Ramis (who also directed the movie).
It's a common practice to create unrated cuts of newly released movies, and Year One is no exclusion. This extended version runs approximately 2 and a half minutes longer than the well-known theatrical version and features harsher language and some story extensions. Due to the fact that both cuts can be found on one disc, one can see the unrated version as a nice bonus.
