Something That Leaves You Thinking

I personally think that the research that David Paulides has done is fascinating. I have a soft spot for the families of the people who has gone missing whether it be in our national parks or anywhere else. I often think about how badly they must hope the coverage of their lost loved one is reaching as many people as possible. So, when I see documentaries on the missing, I watch them. I would want that if someone I loved was missing.

I don't know what is going on but this documentary explored some of the paranormal aspects of spots where there have been clusters of disappearances dealing with hunters. Some of it was strange but if you want to try and get answers you should be willing to think outside the box and considering how odd these disappearances are a bit of "WTF?" hangs like a cloud over the cases. They simply do not make sense.

I like these cases and I hope that they will continue to make documentaries on the subject. We may never really know what is happening. I can only imagine how heartbreaking that must be for the families who would like answers. I pray that they are at least given the opportunity to lay their loved ones to rest.

This is a heck of a movie. It only got a 7 from me because of the last scenario which had no place being in the movie. It was ridiculous and there is no proof it ever even happened. The rest of the movie was interesting. Hunters and experienced hikers go missing under mysterious circumstances without a trace ever being found. People who are familiar with an area go missing, sometimes they have difficulty walking and they are just gone. Items show up in areas that had already been searched many times. People who know what they are doing go missing, but then do or don't do unexplainable things. No calls for help, no firing their gun as a signal, leaving behind food, having tea within eyesight of rescue, yet don't try to get help.

Definitively worth watching.

Moral of the story, if you are in the backwoods or forest, don't become separated.

Engrossing

I'm watching this for the second time and if you like mysteries, the creeps and the outdoors, you'll like this. This documentary focuses on stories of hunters who have vanished without trace while out on legal hunts and some will be thinking "well, if they weren't out there shooting animals, they wouldn't have gone missing". Well, there's certainly validity to that argument but leaving that aside, the manners in which these people just vanished are very strange indeed.

For once, here's an American documentary series (there are other Missing 411 docs on Prime) that doesn't rely on relentless recaps, overly dramatic talking heads and intrusive music. What it has are the facts, presented via personal testimonies from those who were there, all set against stunning landscapes that are at once beautiful and frightening in their size and wildness.

For me though, the highlight is the section where footage is played of the eerie, creepy-as-hell sounds recorded by two hunters one night, out in the wilds. Really gets the hair on the back of the neck standing up because, I think, it taps into our primal fears of the unknown, what's out there and what dangers it presents.

Highly recommended.

A background in David Paulides might be helpful

I've noticed that people who come into just one of his documentaries or talks tend to hold a skeptical point of view, which is respectable as long as you keep an open mind. Once you realize that he has done extensive research on hundreds, if not thousands of these cases, you'll begin to realize that a pattern emerges and something strange is going on. If there were only these 4-5 cases, then yes, they can be easily explainable. It's easy to say this person fell, this one drowned, this one was abducted by a human, this one ran away from their family, this one committed suicide, etc ... But what do you say to thousands of similar cases that have not and cannot be explained by the forestry, the police, the FBI, the green berets? It's just weird. I love that there's mystery still in this world.

Paulides frequently discusses the fact that it's the cumulation of these bizarre disappearance which paints the full picture on coast to coast. This documentary is more for people who understand this, or for those whose curiosity will be piqued. A documentary allows him to give a more detailed and comprehension view of some individual cases, otherwise this documentary would be hours long.

Not enough supernatural!

I did enjoy this documentary but having watched a fair bit of background viewing on YouTube I anticipated that this documentary would expand further on the mysterious nature of the disappearances. That might be a little harsh yet 7/10 is still quite high. Missing 411 is certainly highly watchable even if you are unfamiliar with the phenomenon.

In my opinion, this documentary is much better than the first one. I am guessing that a large percentage of people that follow the Missing 411 phenomenon are like me....very experienced hikers etc who are familiar with the many ways that walkers can go missing or die in very remote wilderness....this is not what is happening here! The detail that was included in this documentary made it much easier to understand the scenario eg. Being able to see the detailed maps, the flyovers of the area, the markers given for various things, the way the search areas were sectioned off etc, all brought the story to life. As for the story of the hunters, and their dealings with strange lights, and those recordings of "something" outside in the woods at night, that was incredible!! I didn't expect that!! That almost sounded like a human language at some points! I was familiar with the "cloaked preditor" story from David's talks, but the amazing graphics really brought that to life too!! Very creepy!

Thank you to all the people in this documentary who have been brave enough to share their story of losing their loved ones....our hearts are with you xx. Thank you too to all the incredible work that the Search and Rescue people do, and of course, to David Paulides, who was courageous enough to bring this phenomenon to the public domain. Let's hope that one day, we will discover what is happening to these people! Incredible Documentary

Interesting Documentary- Creepy in parts

I wasn't expecting a whole lot from this movie, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. The cases are very interesting...especially the consistencies between them.

The part where they recorded the sounds of some kind of beings right in the vicinity of their camp was beyond creepy.

For those who complain that nothing gets wrapped up, that's because these cases are still unsolved and is the point of the film. Tons of people with similar circumstances missing from the forests of America, and none of them have yet to be solved.

I've been enjoying Missing 411 on Youtube for quite some time. This movie with its beautiful shots of the American wilderness made the experience of hearing those mysterious and puzzling accounts even better. Some people are criticizing the scientific validity of the stories and perhaps they have a point, I don't know. From a strictly entertainment perspective, it's a great watch, that's for sure. I wish it was an hour longer!

A "documentary" for the gullible, ignorant, pliable, lackwits, superstitious, uneducated, religious. And having said that: the desperate. Something the makers of this kind of wannabe-conversant-beyond-actual-factbased-knowledge (read: gobbledygook) always rely on is the malleable mindset of a mourning person that is rather content with any answer than is left without one.

The only thing these claimed cases have in common is that in none of them the most rational explanation is even considered, spite being the most honest: we don't know what happened. Instead there's a contrived need to claim there's got to be more to it than meets the eye. And that's where the parasites jump on the disconsolate, pushing their own agenda as some twisted alternative truth, intended only to benefit the makers of this garbage - never the relatives reaching for anything that could externalize the reason to why their friend, sibling, spouse or parent never was found, instead of facing the harsh reality that sometimes it's but a sum of bad coincidences and unfortunate individuals are exposed to these conditions.

Shame on the team producing such false hope giving trite. And shame on the ones commenting somebody not convinced by the worse than poor, obviously fabricated or even non-existent "proof" presented within is somehow too skeptical a person. An open mind doesn't require your brain drops out, which here is the case.

Strange thigs happens to humans all around the world, and this is a comprehensive dive into some cases from the wilderness of the usa.they are all mysterious, but there are things that could in my simple old grumpy mind like mine could be explained. but all over a well bred documentary.

there is a phenomenon known as a presign to migrene that can cause flimsy,blinking and partially vanishing vision, and it appears on both eyes, its a bit scary, especially behind the driving wheel of a car, but that is my solution to the woman in the treetop case.

Some history

David Paulides is a former policeman who had to resign from the police force from his job as a court attendant after being caught scamming autographs from famous people using Police stationery. You can search this online there are plenty of links. He then went on to write books about Bigfoot and start the North America Bigfoot Search (NABS) LLC. After that, he started the Missing 411 series of books, which expound the theory that many disappearances within national parks are mysterious and cannot be explained by rational means. Interestingly Mr Paulides never promotes any particular theory for the disappearances and he says himself that doing so would greatly damage his integrity, he states he is just giving us the facts and letting us, the reader, make our own conclusions.

There have been numerous debunkings of the 411 phenomena, search for Kyle Polich 411 debunking, check the Wikipedia page, which Mr Paulides states contain many errors and is "disgusting" but which he cannot get changed, he points to a conspiracy at Wikipedia to undermine his work.

He also points to a conspiracy at the higher levels of the National Park Service for denying him access to lists of missing people. FOIA has been made by Mr Paulides and some have been refused this is true, but it doesn't mean there is a conspiracy just that the list doesn't exist or the cost to compile it would be too high.

An investigation into the first book, "Missing 411 Eastern United States - Unexplained disappearances of North Americans that have never been solved" was carried out by the user u/theOldUnknown on Reddit and details 12 cases from the book with original source material for reference, these cases contain numerous errors from Mr Paulides and in each case where the book states the outcome as unknown, the actual missing people are either alive and well or turned up dead.

Anthony Holland, 2009, Dead. Cause of disappearance: Suicide. CANAM STATUS: Never found

Mr Paulides omits critical information from his stories, in the Aaron Hedges case he never mentions that Mr Hedges was a recovering alcoholic taking powerful meds to help with withdrawal symptoms. The dates in the movie are all over the place and inaccurate, the distances travelled are incorrect and so on. He lies by omission to suit his narrative and then makes wild correlations to make it look like something mysterious is going on. For example two women disappear decades apart but they both have three letter names beginning with the letter A.

Missing 411 is a virtual clone of the Bermuda Triangle but involves missing people, not ships and planes, and in areas of the National Parks of America and some other parts of the world.

His interest is in selling his books and making a profit, there is nothing wrong with that if they were factually accurate, but they are not, and they are aimed at the armchair detective whom Mr Paulides banks on not doing any actual research for themselves.

I would describe Mr Paulides as a mystery content creator writing books and making documentaries that are loosely based on actual events in an attempt to promote intrigue and mystery into what are pretty mundane and tragic circumstances. It is a shame that the families of the missing have to deal with the crackpot fringe pointing the finger at Bigfoot, portals, Lemurains, and aliens as having been responsible for the death or disappearance of their loved ones.

The only disappointment was that it didnt last long enough for me!! lol I'm not sure what trolls are posting crappy reviews? My Husband and I just finished watching it and it's just fantastic. Everything from the graphics, to the way they detailed the missing peoples locations on a visual map as they told the story.. the creepy interviews they did with very credible people...I'm gushing. GREAT MOVIE. Im a fan. I liked this film a lot more than the first-which was ok but definitely a step above in every category. I'm recommending to everyone I know.

Awesome until Chapter 5

This documentary was awesome until Chapter 5. The first four chapters involved some really interesting disappearances. Chapter 5 was a radical departure from the first four... it didn't involve a disappearance. It was more X-Files-esque than anything.

What really makes Chapter 5 unbelievable is that it is said to have occurred in August. Ohio has no hunting season open during August where one would be archery hunting from a tree stand. The first season that allows tree stand hunting with archery equipment is the early archery season that begins at the end of September. This story lacks credibility and was a terrible one to end the film with. I would have rated it much higher had Chapter 5 been related to 411.

Nothing really mysterious

The data collecting is interesting to watch and it's not like the usual mystery shows where they hype everything over the top just to give you a nothing burger at the end.

The journey on this one is the fun part, but there are pretty obvious explanations for these "mysteries" if you are a rational person . . . If you aren't then you will like this show even more than I did.

A truly bizarre experience

A great documentary! It analytically explains the attributes behind the disappearances and investigates a select few missing cases in the documentary. And this is an unbiased documentary, with the main person keeping an open-eye on what could possibly be behind the disappearances. The documentary is mainly scientific-focused with a few paranormal references. Highly recommend to those wanting an insight onto the bizarre disappearances occurring at the National Parks!

Well done but meanders

The quality of the film was better than expected. It had an okay budget. I thought as the documentary stated it went too far down the rabbit hole for the last segment. The first segments were done better. If you talk to avid hunters with any regularity, eventually you will hear some bizarre stories of things happening in the woods. I wouldn't say categorize them as absolute paranormal, just that things happen to people sometimes that they did not find an explanation for even if it was there. I know a hunter who went into the woods on one side of a prominent stream and came out on the other, but has no memory of crossing the stream. There can be no lonlier place than the deep woods when you are lost, cold, confused, and hungry. So I have a lot of sympathy for those who found themselves in that situation and never got out of it.

Everything I Wish The First Documentary Was!

An absolute well executed and amazing documentary! As a fan and reader of the 411 books the first documentary was OK, it give viewers unfamiliar with the 411 books a good idea of the phenomenon, however it jumped around far too much. This documentary however is everything I wish the first movie documentary was!!

I believe Paulides allowed his son to take on a major part in the production of the 1st movie (understandable he'd want to help his son move his career forward) but he wasn't experienced enough nor possess the expertise or skills to carry a documentary that's grown to the magnitude of these story's and satisfy the interest of the followers of this phenomenon.

Well done Mr Paulides, I hope you continue making documentaries of this quality pertaining to this issue. It really brought these stories to life

Some interesting cases, but the rest is a stretch

The truth is often stranger than fiction and while it's entertaining to imagine paranormal reasons behind these mysteries, Paulides is grasping at straws. While there are one or two curious cases here, some of the "evidence" is a huge stretch. This was also apparent in the book Missing 411. Details like all missing people were wearing similar colours, and other very loosely related information just seem too far fetched. I think David Paulides wants a certain outcome and is reaching and stretching details to fit that narrative, regardless how unlikely it is. While some details of cases seem unusual or eerie, they're actually extremely common in missing persons cases, particularly in dense wilderness. Some of these 'strange' detail have scientifically proven reasons, for example why in some cases clothing was found but not the missing person- look up 'Paradoxical Undressing' with hypothermia. It's been well researched by scientists, Search And Rescue, mountaineers and is a common occurrence with missing people.

Beautiful but lacks validity

It's a visually stunning documentary, containing beautiful shots of the national forests accompanied by animated maps that enhance the experience. But apart from that it totally misses the mark. Supposedly there's something mysterious about these 411 cases and yet the cases chosen in this documentary could be explained using very plausible and scientific theories.

• Commonalities between the cases are older age, disabilities and harsher weather conditions. All things that put these people in a disadvantage of survival and finding their way back and yet the documentary doesn't really acknowledge that.
• The documentary often points out the irrational evidence, claiming the behavior of the (later recovered) missing people makes little to no sense, but fails to mention that hypothermia can cause confusion, memory loss and disorientation.
• Some bodies are found naked or partially undressed. Again "very strange" according to the documentary. This can also happen during hypothermia. The victims experience a heat flash, causing them to undress in an effort to cool down.
• A lot of evidence isn't examined objectively and the narrator jumps to conclusions and states those as though they are factual. For example that belongings were placed deliberately to be found. That's a plausible theory, but it cannot be proven.
• Towards to end of the documentary they suddenly introduce supposed evidence of paranormal activity including strange sounds and lights, which made me think of aliens and bigfoot. It confused me at first, until I read that the man behind the movie and books has written a book which supposedly proves the existence of bigfoot.

I could go on, but I think I've gotten my point across. All in all, the documentary is very biased. The narrator does not accept any rational explanations, dismisses evidence and makes his own conclusions sound like the truth.

This movie represents only a small portion of the fascinating cases Mr. Paulides has researched and described in his Missing 411 book series. Please please please make more movies!
