Studs Terkel and John Sayles appeared in Eight Men Out (1988), the film about the 1919 Black Sox scandal. They appeared as Hugh Fullerton and Ring Lardner, two reporters who helped uncover the scandal. Sayles also wrote the screenplay for the film, which was based on the book by Eliot Asinof, and directed it.
Studs Terkel quotes Braves manager George Stallings, who said on his deathbed that what was killing him was, "bases on balls". He was referring to men being awarded base walks due to bad pitching (four pitches that are not strikes during an at-bat).
