Ryan Sheckler is the boy next door. The all American skateboard champion made his first appearance as Ryan Allen Sheckler on December 30, 1989 to parents Gretchen and Randy Sheckler, in San Clemente, California. He has two younger brothers, Shane and Kane. Ryan, nicknamed "Shecky," discovered his father's old skateboard at the early age of 18 months, and taught himself to push it around using one knee, until he learned how to stand on it. The rest, as they say, is history. By the age of six, he was doing tricks and began practicing for up to twenty-two hours per week in his backyard. At the age of seven, he competed in and won his first competition. His father, at Ryan's request, convinced legendary skateboard champion Tony Hawk to attend Ryan's seventh birthday party! This was a pinnacle event for Ryan, one he credits for inspiring him to continue his focus on skateboarding.
