Mumbai, April 11: Deepika Padukone is a style icon herself, but according to her actor Akshay Kumar is the best dressed man in the Hindi film industry while veteran actress Rekha is her favourite from among women.
Deepika has shared screen space with Akshay in "Chandni Chowk To China", "Housefull" and "Desi Boyz."
"The best dressed man (in the industry) is Akshay Kumar. It's purely his effortlessness that makes him look the way he does. I think the fact that he has always been so athletic that really adds to the way he carries off clothes," the actress told reporters here Thursday.
Among women, Deepika named veteran actress.

Very early in her career when she did two back-to-back double roles in Om Shanti Om and Chandni Chowk To China, Deepika Padukone got to do some martial arts in the latter. But nothing like what she has done in the new Rajinikanth release Kochadaiyaan. Since then Deepika has been pining to show her athletic skills on screen. Says the actress, "I come from a family where sports is a given. We are very outdoor types. Doing my own stunts on screen is a dream situation for me." Deepika's one 10-minute stunt in Kochadaiyaan has been choreographed by Peter Hein. Hein has done the stunts for Rajinikanth's Robot. Apparently Rajinikanth personally requested Hein to make Deepika's action sequences "super-hero styled." Deepika's stunning stunts in Kochadaiyaan are described by the film's co-producer K Murli Manohar as "never before action by a female star from any part of the world...on a...

Deepika is set to play a Gujarati girl in which she’ll need to dance accordingly. According to one source close to the film sets, Bhansali asked Deepika to dance similarly to Aishwarya’s garba dancing (traditional Gujarati dance) .
Lead actress, Deepika is going to no end in terms of her character in this film, and to further get into the skin of her Gujarati character, Deepika also went on some festive shopping with her designer and stylist to Gujarati shopping centres and picked up lavish ghaghra cholis.

Nikhil Advani, director of Kal Ho Na Ho, Salaam-e-Ishq, Chandni Chowk to China and Patiala House is currently working on a number of scripts, one of which is a female orientated multi-starrer, reportedly featuring up to eight Bollywood beauties. Names that are currently being touted include Madhuri Dixit, Dimple Kapadia, Rani Mukerji, Karisma Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Genelia D’Souza.
Ask Nikhil and he shares “It is too premature. I am talking to everybody and it is quite exciting because it will give me an opportunity to work with some of the actors and actresses who I think are known as ‘classic’ in the film industry.” However, the last time Nikhil attempted a multi-starrer was with ‘Salam-e-Ishq’ back in 2007, which despite twelve stars, including the likes of Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, John Abraham and Vidya Balan, failed miserably at the box office, with both fans and critics alike.

A black belt in martial arts, Neetu Chandra is done with the veil. Lately seen immersed in efforts to fit into the image of the good domesticated future wife to actor Randeep Hooda, Neetu had consciously discarded her bindaas bold and provocative image for the sake of love, commitment and impending matrimony.
But now we hear the relationship has for all practical purposes reached a dead end. With Hooda's career on a sudden if not a steep upturn, we hear Neetu is tired of fitting into the good girlfriend ideal wife-material slot.
While the industry was talking of a wedding date, Neetu we hear has other plans. She is ready to strike back on screen, this time in a desiavatar of Uma Thurman's kickass role in Kill Bill. The stunts would be on a par with what our Bollywood he-men do in action scenes.

Priyanka Chopra did it for Krissh, Deepika Padukone for Chandni Chowk to China and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan did it for Jodhaa Akbar. All three ladies took their roles to heart by training for their countless stunts in their respective films. Among them, Katrina Kaif will be joining the list because she will soon be seen doing her own action scenes soon. For what film you ask? Dhoom 3!

Us-Indian co-productions have performed dismally – but Bollywood's need for global expertise could reverse the trend
When WikiLeaks went public with diplomatic cable 248355 last April, it revealed that even the Americans weren't too optimistic about their chances of breaching one of the last bastions against them: "Unfortunately, all of the joint Hollywood-Bollywood productions released thus far have been unsuccessful at the box office, signalling that a successful entry into Bollywood is not easy," some unsparing bureaucrat had written. Perhaps there was also a note of admiration there, for another country with a formidable popular cinema (about a 90% share of its own market), and a deep resistance to watching anything foreign.
But Hollywood isn't quitting yet. This week sees the release in India and the UK of the latest Hollywood wolf in Bollywood clothing, 20th Century Fox's Ekk Deewana Tha. A glossy-looking romantic drama with a pair of extremely winsome leads in...

When it comes to certain stars, the film makes money regardless of what the reviewer says. Then they start looking like small street dogs barking at a huge elephant: Shyam Benegal
Quite a few things in cinema transcend logic, and this is one of them. Films that stick like a bone in the throat of film reviewers go on to do phenomenal business at the box office (yes, we may be referring to Bodyguard) while films that are praised liberally are often left famished when it comes to making money. There seems to be a discord between filmmakers, film reviewers and the audience in the largest film-producing country of the world. What then is the role of a film reviewer and a film review in a space that is churning out all kinds of cinema parallely?

Just two years ago, Akshay Kumar starrer Chandni Chowk To China was banned in Nepal when it released. And now, just two days post its release, Aamir Khan's Delhi Belly, which stars Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapur has been banned in the Himalayan kingdom. This ban ruling comes after the Nepal Censor Board recommended approximately five dialogue cuts in the film. However, due to non-compliance of the directive by cinema halls, which were screening the film sans the cuts, the board has decided to ban the film altogether.

She then appeared in 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' (2008) with Ranbir Kapoor (with whom she was once romantically involved, and his initials are still tattooed on her neck), the bomb 'Chandni Chowk to China' (2009) opposite Akshay Kumar, and the hit 'Love Aaj Kal' (2009) alongside Saif Ali Khan. She starred in five films in 2010—'Karthik Calling Karthik,' 'Housefull,' 'Lafangey Parindey,' 'Break Ke Baad,' 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey'—with mixed results. A couple of years back Akshay Kumar was seen in Nikhil Advani's Chandni Chowk To China. The actor had continued to stand by the film and its director before as well as after the release of the film and had immediately consented to work on Patiala House. The subject chosen was altogether different this time around with Akshay Kumar going sober in a film which deals with family values with a strong cricket background to it. Rest assured, can one confidently state that after an...

For Nikhil Advani, Patiala House could well be the most important release of his four film career so far. Though he began on a positive note with Kal Ho Na Ho, his Salaam-e-ishq saw mixed response coming his way. However what brought the film maker down was Chandni Chowk To China, a movie with which both he as well as Akshay Kumar went ambitious but not with much success. On its release in early 2009, the film failed at the box office. An action comedy, it was lambasted by the...

Part action hero with martial-arts skills, part comedian with a knack for farce, part handsome leading man who can dance—like a cross between Jackie Chan, Jerry Lewis, and John Travolta—Akshay Kumar is simultaneously a tough guy and a goofball—and he always gets the girl. While he's enormously popular in India for his everyman qualities, he's an acquired taste for most Americans. His first film came out in 1991 and he hit it big a year later in 'Khiladi.' He's appeared in nearly 80 movies since then, with a decent track record, but only recently has he been challenging the three Khans for supremacy at the box office. The year 2007 belonged to Akshay with four hits—'Namastey London,' 'Heyy Babyy,' 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa,' and 'Welcome.' In 2008, his film 'Tashan' failed to do well, but 'Singh is Kinng' (which included...

Believe it or not but ever since the release of his last romantic film, Namastey London, Akshay Kumar has mainly been seen in comedies, thrillers or action flicks. Meanwhile for Vipul Shah too it has been an over three years wait after he made a dramatic London Dreams in the interim."Call it some coincidence but after Akshay and Vipul worked together on Namastey London, they didn't work on any romantic flicks", says an industry veteran, "Akshay did have a dozen odd releases in the interim but each of these films belonged to different genres. He has done comedies (Heyy Babyy, Welcome, Singh Is Kinng, De Dana Dan, Housefull), drama (Bhool Bhulaiyaa, 8X10 Tasveer, Khatta Meetha) and action (Tashan, Chandni Chowk To China, Blue) or a romcom (Kambakkth Ishq). However, a quintessential light hearted love story was being missed."Now with Action Replayy, the duo has...

Here at Twitch we've been following Superstar Rajnikanth's latest Tamil language outing, Enthiran (or Robot in its Hindi dubbed form) with some enthusiasm. For me it stems from having come late to Rajni's ouevre with his last major outing, Sivaji, a blockbuster by Indian standards. In the case of Enthiran, Kollywood (the colloquial name for the Tamil language film industry) is trying to break Rajni out of the Indian pigeonhole and onto the world's collective celebrity radar. Not only does this film co-star former Miss World, Loreal model, and all around mega-hottie, Aishwariya Rai Bachchan; it also features a score by newly minted Oscar winner A.R. Rahman, composing for his native Tamil language; as well as stunts coordinated by...
