However, games take time, skill, and patience, and they're not for everyone. So, if you are interested in some of the plots of video games, but want to sit back and relax while watching them, here are 8 best adaptations that might be a perfect choice.
8. Sonic Prime (2022-...) – 60%
The fate of the world is once again in Sonic's hands as he must use his super speed to save the newly created multiverse. Although the latest installment of the famous hedgehog's journey didn't impress audiences too much, viewers were much more appreciative, giving the show an 86% approval rating.

Netflix has released dozens of sci-fi shows, but not all of them are worth watching. Therefore, Reddit users have collected only the best of the best – those that changed the rules of the genre and surprised with their unexpected plot twists.
1. Altered Carbon, 2018-2020
When acclaimed Hollywood screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis read Richard K. Morgan's cyberpunk novel Altered Carbon, she decided to turn it into a blockbuster. But the story did not fit into an hour and a half hours, so Kalogridis decided to turn the project into a television series for Netflix.
Altered Carbon is about a future world in which people can live forever, moving their consciousness from body to body and creating digital copies in case of sudden death or murder. The richer a person is, the better his immortality is guaranteed and the more often he can change bodies.
2. Dark, 2017-2020
2019, the quiet German town of Winden.

Claymation legends Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham will offer stop-motion fans a sneak peek at their upcoming Wallace & Gromit film at this year’s Annecy animation festival.
The still-untitled feature will see inveterate, cheese-loving inventor Wallace designing a “smart gnome” for the family garden who begins to develop a mind of its own. As events spiral out of control, it is up to faithful dog Gromit to put things right. Park and Crossingham co-directed the film, based on a story by Park and a screenplay from Shaun the Sheep and Gnomeo & Juliet writer Mark Burton.
The film, which will premiere on Netflix worldwide outside the U.K., where it will have a first-release window on the BBC, is the second feature from Aardman Animations based on the beloved characters, following the Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005) and the series of award-winning shorts, including Oscar-winners The Wrong...

Video game adaptations have been a popular genre in Hollywood for years, offering captivating stories with built-in fan bases. Ella Purnell continues her stellar history of video game adaptations with Fallout. The actress, 27, has successfully ventured into the video game industry with Netflix’s Arcane, an animated series based on League of Legends, after previously finding success with Home for Peculiar Children, Army of the Dead, and Yellowjackets.
The English actor does, however, display a more upbeat side as Lucy in the latest drama series, Fallout. During the first season’s eight-episode series, viewers will witness Lucy’s development from an eternally upbeat vault dweller with an all-American gumption to a more seasoned survivor who can handle the dangers and quirks of the wasteland.

Purnell recently revealed that she was instantly drawn to the project when the show’s executive producers described her character as someone who could star in a “toothpaste commercial” but could also “kill you”.

Zack Snyder famously had a plan for an R-rated Star Wars story that never saw the light of day, thanks to Disney buying out the IP before Snyder had a chance to pitch it properly. Several years later, the idea found itself being developed as an original IP by Netflix, something that Snyder hoped would turn into a juggernaut like Star Wars itself.
Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire.
While beloved by Zack Snyder fans and general audiences, the beginning of the Rebel Moon IP failed to impress critics with its first part, A Child of Fire. Considering that the girl was only the first half of the story, Snyder has come out saying that the first film will merit re-evaluation when the second film, The Scargiver, hits streaming on April 19th.

Spoilers follow for the first season of "Fallout."
With "Fallout," Prime Video delivered one of the best video game adaptations ever, one that stands up there with the likes of "Arcane," "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" and "Castlevania."
A big reason for the show's success is that it is not a 1:1 remake like, say, "The Last of Us." Instead, "Fallout" tells an entirely original story with brand new characters. There is some overlap, of course, from slightly similar plots to cheeky references and returning characters from the games, but otherwise, this feels less like replaying your favorite "Fallout" game and more like watching a brand new "Fallout" game play out in front of you.
This allows the TV show to tell a good and thrilling story without the restraints of canon or the games. This is how we get the entire pre-war storyline that gives us an origin for Vault Boy and...

Video game adaptations are an absolute treat to relive those wonderful gaming memories leaving your keyboards and controllers, and the Fallout universe is no exception. For instance, there are many video game adaptations, like The Last of Us, Castlevania, Arcane, and many more, that have won our hearts.
Based on the famous RPG franchise from Bethesda Softworks, this series has already garnered a huge viewership. Among this viewer base, a prominent name is Johan Pilestedt, the CEO of Arrowhead Gaming and director of Helldivers 2. Despite his praise for the Fallout series, he does have a complaint about it.
Johan Pilestedt Just Has One Complaint Regarding the Fallout Series The Helldivers 2 director is absolutely loving the Fallout series.
Recently, Pilestedt shared his experience watching Fallout. Before coming to the complaint, he stated that he was “loving” this series. But his only problem with this series is that the characters in it are very bad at looting.

"Fallout" avoids the big flaw of most video game adaptations by throwing away the plot and instead focusing on letting the audience live in this fantastical world. It doesn't mess with the games' storylines, it doesn't contradict player agency, and it just lets "Fallout" be "Fallout."
Indeed, the true star of the show isn't Walton Goggin's hot ghoul or Ella Purnell's vault dweller, but the production design. The world of "Fallout" feels as big and detailed as "Foundation" or "Rings of Power," while still feeling as desolate as "The Last of Us." The show has a unique atom-punk retrofuturism style that somehow combines robots and Bing Crosby. The story takes place over 200 years after nuclear war destroyed the planet, with a small percentage of the population surviving by hiding in underground vaults. Every part of the show feels tactile and lived-in, from the robots to the ruined buildings and the vaults,...

With the recent Arcane: League of Legends, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and The Last of Us, TV creators adapted popular video games into acclaimed series (thus cracking a code that still vexes filmmakers). Now we have a new contender, with the April 11 release of Prime Video’s Fallout — which, with any luck, will be more revered than radioactive. Based on the video game series of the same name and adapted by Westworld’s Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, Fallout is “the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have,” Amazon MGM Studios says. “Two-hundred years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind,” the studio’s description continues, “and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.” Here’s what we...

This week is Huge. How huge, you might be asking? Well, we’ve got an ambitious sci-fi epic from the “Game of Thrones” team hitting Netflix (“3 Body Problem”); a “Road House” remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal on Prime Video; and the return of the ‘90s era “X-Men” animated series coming to Disney+. And that’s just scratching the surface – also in the offerings are a documentary on Stormy Daniels (“Stormy”), a dramatization of the Yorkshire Ripper case (“The Long Shadow”) and Regina King playing Shirley Chisholm (“Shirley”). Like we said: Huge.

I’ve said this many times, but I state it again: I’m a super fan of the fantasy genre. Whether it’s because The Lord of the Rings saga remains my favorite after all these years or because it’s a genre that allows exploring the true immersive, escapist potential of cinema, I’ve always felt a special connection with this type of storytelling set in a completely imaginary world, full of mythical beings, breathtaking kingdoms and castles, and uniquely unforgettable creatures. Therefore, the mere fact that Damsel is an original fantasy story automatically set my expectations for this Netflix movie higher than usual.
Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) and written by Dan Mazeau (Fast X), Damsel follows the story of Elodie (Millie Bobby Brown), a young woman from a poor kingdom who sees an opportunity to change her life, as well as that of her people and family,...

Just like superhero movies, the post-apocalypse is kind of overdone. Given our current dystopian landscape, it makes sense that Hollywood has quickly embraced the post-apocalypse, delivering wave after wave of dour, grim movies that sell a rather depressing view of the future — not without reason, of course.
After a while, however, post-apocalyptic movies — zombie or otherwise — become too close to home to feel fun at all. "Mad Max: Fury Road" managed to overcome some of this by focusing on its high-octane, dangerous stunts that gave everyone anxiety. But after the huge success of "The Last of Us," we're risking seeing hopelessness and human horror become the end-all-be-all of post-apocalyptic stories. Or at least we would be if it wasn't for "Fallout."

Avatar: The Last Airbender, the anime-inspired live-action series, will be able to tell the story of the four nations: Water. Earth. Fire. Air after Netflix renewed it for a further two seasons.
The streamer has handed the show a two-season renewal order to conclude the story of Aang’s journey to become the Avatar.
It comes after the show premiered on Netflix on February 22 and recorded 41.1M views in its first 11 days, topping its TV list for the last two weeks and being on track to enter its top ten most-watched list over its first three months.
The plan is to film these two seasons – Seasons 2 and 3 – in close succession in order to mitigate the fact that child actors tend to grow up quickly.
The series comes from Rideback, whose boss Dan Lin, an exec producer on the series, was recently named Netflix’s new film chief, replacing Scott Stuber.

Berner, the American rapper and CEO behind the cannabis brand Cookies, in association with 4 Ways Entertainment, has set the cast for their first joint film, “Splash City.”
Alex Ferrufino, David Mansanalez, John Mercado, and Arie Rose of 4 Ways are set to produce the coming-of-age thriller set against the backdrop of “the real and raw subculture of the San Francisco Bay Area,” according to a press release. The script for “Splash City” was written by David Mansanalez and Berner, with Ferrufino directing the film.

Media adaptations of beloved video game franchises have turned out to be the next big thing, as proven by the success of the Sonic movies, HBO’s The Last of Us series, Netflix’s Arcane, and so on and so forth. Partly due to the producers finally acknowledging the potential of video game narratives, and mostly due to assistance from creators who are passionate about the source material, fans have been catered to with faithful retellings of their favorite video game storylines. Unfortunately, fans of the iconic interplanetary sci-fi game series Halo cannot claim to have enjoyed the first season of Paramount+’s small-screen adaptation of the game series, which, in an effort to carve out its own place, became a far cry from the original saga.

The tech sector’s tough times continue. Riot Games, the video game developer behind the popular League of Legends and Arcane, the Netflix series on which it is based, is laying off about 530 staffers worldwide in a move its CEO described as a “decision [that] is critical for the future of Riot.”
The cuts represent about 11% of the global staff of the company owned by China’s Tencent.
“We are refocusing on fewer, high-impact projects to move us toward a more sustainable future,” Riot CEO Dylan Jadeja and co-founder/chief product officer Marc Merrill wrote in a note addressed to “Players” (read it here). “With today’s moves, we’re going back to putting games at the center of everything we do.”

The tech sector continues to feel the pain of layoffs, with League of Legends and Arcane studio Riot Games set to lay off some 530 employees, representing 11 percent of its employee base. The company informed staff of the cuts Monday afternoon.
The decision to cut staff “isn’t to appease shareholders or to hit a quarterly earnings number—it’s a necessity,” the company said in a statement, adding that it intends to focus on fewer projects, but that have a bigger impact.
“Today, we’re a company without a sharp enough focus, and simply put, we have too many things underway,” Riot Games CEO Dylan Jadeja wrote in a memo to staff. “Some of the significant investments we’ve made aren’t paying off the way we expected them to. Our costs have grown to the point where they’re unsustainable, and we’ve left ourselves with no room for...

After making one of the most refreshing DC superhero movies in years, and also one of the worst, David F. Sandberg is finally returning to his horror roots. Unsurprisingly for IP-obsessed Hollywood, Sandberg's return is not with an original horror story, but with an adaptation of a popular title — a video game, to be exact.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sandberg has signed up to direct an adaptation of "Until Dawn," the PlayStation horror game, for Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions. The script was originally written by Blair Butler (who previously wrote the underwhelming vampire flick "The Invitation"), but "Annabelle: Creation" writer Gary Dauberman is reportedly giving the script another pass.
Though specifics on this adaptation are scarce, Screen Gems is reportedly describing the film version as an "R-rated love letter to the horror genre, centering on an ensemble cast."
"Until Dawn" was first released in 2015 for the PlayStation 4 as an interactive horror game.

Now that the age of superheroes is ending, video game adaptations are the new cinematic frontier. We've seen TV adaptations like "Arcane" and "The Last of Us" receive critical acclaim, while big-screen adaptations like the "Sonic the Hedgehog" movies have proved to be huge commercial hits. The next highly anticipated TV adaptation of a beloved video game franchise is "Fallout," co-created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy ("Westworld") with Geneva Robertson-Dworet ("Tomb Raider") and Graham Wagner ("Portlandia") serving as showrunners.
"Fallout" takes place in 2296, 219 years after a great nuclear war that annihilated mankind. The survivors took refuge in underground bunkers known as Vaults. Those who leave the vaults encounter a dangerously hostile and brutal wasteland that, despite some elements of advanced technology, retains the aesthetics of 1950s Americana. It's a retrofuturistic story set hundreds of years in the future, featuring mutated monsters and intelligent (and somehow hot) ghouls. But to...

With the release of Arcane season 1 on November 6, 2021, the Christian Linke and Alex Yee-created series definitely upped the game in the world of animated series. Based on and set in the same universe as Riot Games’ League of Legends, the 9-episode first season has left audiences (and critics) anticipating the release of Arcane season 2. The series, which premiered on Netflix, is also known by its on-screen title Arcane: League of Legends. It's finally happened. After more than two years of anticipation, we finally have our first proper look at season 2 of the hugely popular, Emmy Award-winning animated series "Arcane."
For the uninitiated, "Arcane" is based on the world of the global video game sensation "League of Legends" which tells an original story featuring some fan-favorite characters from the game. Specifically, "Arcane" tells the origin story of champions Jinx (Ella Purnell) aka Powder, and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld), two sisters who find themselves on opposite sides of a brewing war between the utopian city of Piltover and its underbelly Zaun. All this happens while Piltover and the world at large are forever transformed by the discovery of magic-based arcane technology.
The show was not only applauded as a spectacular video game adaptation, but also as a visual feast. Like "Into the Spider-Verse," this show challenged what was thought possible with animation, especially on TV.

When Netflix released its first-ever Engagement Report — a revealing look into what (and how much) people are watching within the streamer’s film and TV catalog — live-action adult and young adult series like Ginny and Georgia, The Night Agent and Fubar were among those that topped nearly a billion hours watched.
But between January and June 2023, seasons of animated originals Sonic Prime, Gabby’s Dollhouse, Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse, My Dad the Bounty Hunter and The Creature Cases also ranked among the 500 most-viewed series (out of 18,000), as did acquisitions like Paw Patrol, CoComelon, Pj Masks and Peppa Pig.
And while much of the streamer’s most popular animated content came from its kids and family programming, the report reveals new and previously released seasons of adult animation and anime entries like Castlevania, Love, Death & Robots, Bee and Puppycat, Disenchantment, Big Mouth, and Skull Island were among the top 22 percent of watched titles.

Nick Offerman has been a bit of an Emmys bridesmaid so far, as the versatile actor has been nominated three times in his career but failed to turn any of them into cold, hard wins he can put on his shelf. This year, he earned his fourth nomination — and, surprisingly, his first one as an actor. He was nominated for Best Drama Guest Actor for HBO’s hugely successful video-game adaptation “The Last of Us.”
In the show, Offerman appears as Bill in episode three — “Long, Long Time.” Perhaps the most emotional episode of the entire series, Offerman is front and center of the drama and truly gets a chance to show off his acting chops. Bill lives a solitary life on his compound when the epidemic breaks out. But his uneasy quiet is disturbed when Murray Bartlett‘s Frank stumbles upon the land. Bill is reluctant to help the...

Murray Bartlett is having a very special moment. After winning his first Emmy last year, the actor has followed up that victory with not one but two nominations this year as he looks to continue his hot streak. One of those bids this year is for Best Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actor for “Welcome to Chippendales,” while his second comes for HBO’s drama “The Last of Us,” which amassed a whopping 25 Emmy bids. Specifically, Bartlett was nominated for Best Drama Guest Actor for his emotional role as Frank in episode three of the show.
That episode, titled “Long, Long Time,” was touted as one of the very best in the entire series and was certainly the most heartbreaking. The episode flashes back to Frank leaving Baltimore as the epidemic spread. Soon after, he stumbles across a protected compound belonging to Nick Offerman‘s Bill, who, at first, is reluctant...

"Arcane" is one of the best animated shows of the past decade, a masterclass in adapting and reinterpreting a popular franchise for a different medium. Studio Fortiche delivered one of the most stunning pieces of animation in years with this show, which draws from the world of the hugely popular video game franchise "League of Legends."
The story follows a group of characters across the socioeconomic spectrum in the dual city of Piltover and Zaun. They are caught in the middle of a revolution when the discovery of a century is made — arcane technology, which is essentially magic. There are compelling characters and stories, exquisite worldbuilding, and gorgeous fight scenes to boot.
"Arcane" also boasts a fantastic voice cast that includes Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, Katie Leung, and many more actors who are set to return for season 2.

Video game adaptations are all the rage. Together with anime, video games are the new gold rush for adaptations. Gone are the days when they were considered an instant failure; whether it's "Arcane," "Castlevania" or "The Last of Us," adaptations of video games are garnering critical acclaim and high viewership. On the film front, the "Sonic the Hedgehog" movies and the recent "Super Mario Bros. Movie" showed video game adaptations could also make money. Like, a lot of it.
Adapted from the iconic Sega video games of the same name, "Sonic the Hedgehog" focuses on the titular Sonic (Ben Schwartz) as he teams up with a small-town human sheriff (James Marsden) for a fun road trip that ends in a confrontation with the diabolical scientist Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). The second "Sonic" film expands the world by introducing other anthropomorphic animals with powers, specifically Miles "Tails" Prower (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and...

Video game adaptations are all the rage. Ever since "Castlevania" became a hit on Netflix, we've seen adaptations big and small achieve huge popularity and success. On television, there's "Arcane," and this year's "The Last of Us" shows that you actually can be faithful to the medium of video games while also adapting these stories for the screen. There is no stopping this train.
One of the most anticipated and exciting adaptations in the works now is the upcoming "Fallout" TV show, adapted from the popular video game franchise of the same name. "Fallout" is set in an atompunk retrofuturistic post-apocalypse, with the games being renowned for their world-building and visual storytelling.
Where "The Last of Us" and other post-apocalyptic stories focus on the pain and misery that follows the end of civilization, "Fallout" has always been more than a bit tongue in cheek, with plenty of satire and sarcasm in the nuclear wasteland.

"Arcane" is not only the best animated show Netflix has released, but one of the best animated shows of the modern era. This loose adaptation of Riot Games' "League of Legends" universe has a compelling and thrilling story of rebellion set in a fantasy world, a fleshed-out world rich in lore and details, and an absolutely stunning visual style that mixes 3D and 2D animation.
While Netflix finally announced a release date for season 2 of "Arcane" for 2024, fans have still spent the months since the first season's release just salivating at any new piece of information. League of Legends fans are in for a treat with the upcoming release of Arcane season 2, set to arrive in November 2024. Why? The reason is simple. This anticipated sequel to the Netflix series promises to deepen the connection between the beloved game and its animated adaptation. From “Cheers” to “Frasier,” Kelsey Grammer’s Frasier Crane was a mainstay of comedy TV for 20 years, from the ’80s to the early-aughts. Now, after an equal amount of time off the air, Grammer is back in the role for Paramount+’s “Frasier.”
The streaming series is a revival-meets-reboot that once again spins off Grammer’s character with a new cast of colorful characters. Some original “Frasier” stars will return to guest star. However, David Hyde Pierce won’t return as Niles and John Mahoney, who played their father Martin, passed away in 2018.
That means Frasier – along with “Frasier” fans – will be surrounded by new faces. With that in mind, here’s a handy guide to the new “Frasier” cast and characters, including where you might have the actors before.

"Arcane" was one of the biggest TV surprises of 2021. The show is set in the fictional universe of the popular "League of Legends" video game, while not exactly adapting a particular story. The result was a series that put the final nail in the coffin of the so-called video game adaptation curse. "Arcane" featured a vast, lived-in world with rich lore. The characters are complex, with their story arcs throughout the nine episodes being nuanced and thrilling to watch.

However, unlike properties such as Batman, no one actor has truly embodied the wall-crawler or his amazing friends (or deadly enemies). So, Insomniac Games had their work cut out for them when it came time to cast for Marvel’s Spider-Man.
To say Insomniac knocked it out of the park with their selected voices would be an understatement, so of course they were primed to return for subsequent entries, including Spider-Man 2. The game is full of returning characters, many of whom are voiced by the same actors, but the main selling point are all the new faces. During the game, players will get...

David Ellison’s Skydance Animation has found a new home at Netflix, ending a lucrative distribution pact with Apple Studios.
Skydance Animation, run by John Lasseter with president Holly Edwards, will now exclusively release its animated movies directly to Netflix in an arrangement that will span multiple years, with the studio’s existing slate also moving exclusively to the streamer.
The first up will be “Spellbound,” which was previously set up at Apple. The film, starring Rachel Zegler and Tituss Burgess, is now set for release by Netflix in 2024, followed by “Pookoo” in 2025. Future films include “Ray Gunn,” directed by Brad Bird and an untitled Jack and the Beanstalk project directed by Rich Moore. Theatrical releases do not seem to be a part of the new Netflix-Skydance Animation agreement.
While the animation deal has ended, Apple and Skydance will continue its business on live-action films and series, including movies from...

Before “The Last of Us” and “Arcane,” it was Netflix’s and Powerhouse Animation’s “Castlevania” (now in its fourth season) that broke the video game adaptation curse with a highly stylized, anime-inspired horror-action show based on the Konami video game series. Now, the spinoff series “Castlevania: Nocturne” moves the action forward 300 years to the time of the French Revolution. With the new time period comes new themes, an expanded worldview, and a big change to the show’s visual style. Unsurprisingly, the biggest change was in the action, all thanks to one invention: Firearms.
“We had guns,” director Sam Deats told IndieWire. “A rifle-axe was my favorite thing, inspired by a trip to a New York museum that had a whole display of different weapons mixed with guns, and I just wanted to incorporate some of that in the show.”
